Anybody here work on or know of some one that does ? I have a AM/FM that won't power on and radios are just not my thing... Thanks
First things first. Are you SURE your getting power to it? Its common for the radio fuse to blow. Make sure your using a known good speaker. The speaker has to be 8-10 ohms
Some one at one time posted about a guy in NY that did repairs. If anyone remembers please repost. I am looking for his info . Most places today just want to alter your existing radio to modern features . For $400 to $500 . I say No Thanks to that .
Precision Stereo Repair in Utica NY. Guy's name is Bob. Good guy. My friend just sent him his 67 Corvette AM/FM radio for repair. It was like $150 to replace all the capacitors. For an extra $50, Bob installed better capacitors that made it play like a modern radio. My friend also bought a new speaker which is unique to a mid year Vette. I think he was "all in" at $300. Bob is old school. He'll fix whats wrong with your radio and give you a price. Like Lou said, most places today want to gut your whole radio and install modern guts. No thanks is right!
Yes, I have power and a new correct front speaker. I will tear into it again and double check it. Thanks for all the input.
Jim Shepard rebuilds them...http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?members/j69shep.48884/ http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/am-fm-radio-conversion-experience.317964/#post-2652899 Troy
I sent Joe’ Classic Car Radio the radio out of my 67 GS400, he not only went through it and did a mechanical restoration, but he added a module that will allow me to connect a flash drive, filled with my favorite tunes. Very reasonable. He offers many different modules that adds modern functionality to an old radio. I would recommend him in a heartbeat. Check him out at: http://www.joesclassiccarradio.com/
I used Rick's Radio Conversion -- and upgraded to new electronics. I can appreciate why folks want to keep the original delco electronics but I love the upgrade. 1) I can use modern 4 ohm speakers 2) I got stereo vs mono 3) I got Bluetooth and MP3 4) it sounds great https://www.facebook.com/Ricksradioconversions/
I'm interested in this. Had a local guy look at my am/fm but couldn't get parts to complete all the repairs. Got the am working but no fm. The push buttons don't work either.
I also used Rick's and he did the full conversion in the 67 Sportwagon with new speakers and Bluetooth etc. Sounds great with dash and rear speaker.
