Would those have the stronger strait cut gears? Would I want/be able to put these guts in a bop case?. What's the advantages to the strait cut gears?

    Edit...
Strait cut gear =stronger, more contact on the gears cause it take more power off surrounding transmission parts.

Take more HP to run due to more friction.

    Louder like a rock crusher.

    Sought after by racers.

In rv', buses, big vehicles like taco trucks & ice cream trucks.

. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thats the ole parking brake drum on the rear of the tranny. Almost always on a Truck or motorhome. Like a box truck. or dump truck. I would think that one would have the most heavy duty factory parts like more clutches per drum, heavy duty roller clutch and not the sprag type. The valve body would be calibrated for a high rear ratio most lickly. The case wont bolt up beign thats a chevy pattern. But the innards would be worth gutting out if you have the opportunity.

    Say Larry
    LARRY.
Are those gear vender units like the Doug Nash units found on mid 80ies corvetts, The 4 speed plus three? Or is the gear vender just one gear. ? I have never seen on but from the outside it loooks like something similar to a large transfercase planet . Rotating drum or stationay ring gear in there?

Gv are basically an add on 1 speed transmission that you can turn on and off at any speeds over about 25mph. So if you turned it on and off you could turn your 3 speed into a 6 speed. I think they gave about 30% overdrive ratio.

Basically all 400 parts swap, some of the early pre 67 unit have to match the early year forward hub and mainshaft. There are few other parts you can get crossed up in when mismatching, like pistons and drums, some have a check valve some don't, the 2nd cushion and band apply piston have to match styles, and a few other little things here and there.

It's very normal for the output shafts to turn easy on direction and not hardly at all the other.......it's just cause your trying to drive the planetarts backs and against all the sprags and bands from the wrong dirction. The squeel you heard if it's the same I'm thinking about is also normal, you won't hear it when actually running, it's just the parts inside again being driven from the wrong way and that. If you would pull all the clutches and drums out and be turning the planetary input shafts and sun gear as the way the power would flow, it would turn easier,

That's a good score for the extra internal parts. Of course the case won't fit your 430, the output shaft will not work, nor will the extension housing. But case for bop trans shouldn't be a hard find, not sure if you need a long or short shaft output and extenoon housing

Yep for 100 you can simple get the correct case and not have all that spacer bs.

Just a quick scroll through cl here I found 5 or 6 bop 400 for under 125

Yup it's mine now. Looks like I'll be running a th400 for sure now. Do you recommend a good manual/video to rebuild them

I've never built one, I've got several local builders that do it too cheap, for me to really try, the "SA" one from Barnes and Noble is pretty good I hear. I'm jealous tho, I been looking for a RV th400 for awhile now
