Good day Paul, You have to remove the rocker moulding, unbolt the inner fender from the fender ( it will let the fender swing out and give you room to get your hand in behind to get to the nuts) remove the two lower fender bolts (watch out for fender shims and keep track of where they go) Mask up the front edge of the door and rear edge of fender to protect the paint. now carefully pull out the bottom of the fender and stick a piece of wood between fender and flange. its a pain but take your time and you should be alright .good luck Tim
Removing those lower fender bolts are easier sad than done. They're usually rusted up and the welded nut breaks off and just spins. Its great fun. Id rather get a root canal
Luckily for me the car only has 50K original miles and doesn't have a spec of rust anywhere. I am adding the Stage 1 emblems to my Skylark, what are the odds I can drill the holes, open the door and get a 1/4 ratchet in there? Just thinking out loud.......................
You might have half a chance then The doors open into the fenders on a 70 Skylark, so when the door is open, it covers the area you need to access.
A kid/girl with small hands and that knows how to use tools can get in there. Not comfortable, but it can be done.
Sorry that wont work either. Even with the wheelhouse removed the speed nuts aren't all that accessible. I'd bite the bullet and remove the fender.
We used to drill the holes as Hugger said and then install them with barrel clips. I bought a GS 455 in 1984 when I was 18. There was a square hole cut in the fender well that was about 4" X 4". It had been cut on 3 sides and you could tell that the forth side had been folded. They then covered the hole with a 5" X 5" piece, pop riveted it in place and then sprayed it with rubberized under coating. The car was a 72 so you could tell it was a GS 455 with the VIN number so I know it was real. All I could figure was that they just wanted to replace the emblems....
Cuttoff wheel is my go to for the bottom fender bolts ,.or if you have have a nice drill bit set and start in the dead center you can drill the head off super easy
