Just getting my '69 special back on the road, first I need a new radiator and tranny cooler lines. I need brake lines too, so I figured I'll do them all at once. My question: will parts for a skylark fit my special deluxe? Gary '69 Special Deluxe
Parts for your car should be the exact same as a Skylark. You should also look at The Right Stuff and/or Fine Lines for trans cooling lines. I bought mine thru Summit Racing or Jegs and saved lots of money on shipping.
ok, how can i tell if I have power drum or man drum? I have drum all the way around, never heard the term power drum. 69 Powr Drum w/Wheel Full Brake Lines, HT-BKB6901 69 Man Drum w/Wheel Full Brake Lines, HT-BKB6902
Pop the hood, your looking for a brake booster. Mounted behind the master brake cylinder, it looks like a round drum with a line going to carb or intake manifold. . If it is not there and the master bolts to firewall, you have manual brakes. Jim
Not too difficult, pull the tires, put the car on stands. Be safe, I slide the tires under as a backup. Give all the unions a squirt of PB Blaster or equivalent juice of choice. Let em soak. I did my car as a frame-off, so it will be a bit more of a project for you, but easily do-able . I replaced all lines, master, booster , proportioning valve/block, brake shoes, wheel cylinders etc. so entire system was dry. I gravity bled it for awhile until fliud was present at all 4 corners. Transmission lines can be a pita if you have aftermarket headers, but again, do-able. Make sure you soak the union where lines connect to radiator, they can be difficult if corroded, etc. Jim
The way I look at it , when I question my ability, if the smucks on Fast n Loud can do it, I can too......Jim
