See what I did there? But in all seriousness, the lever is legit stuck all the way to the right (deice) and won't budge. I'm going to be replacing the heater core soon, so I'm assuming I'll be accessing into or around the controls? Any suggestions/remedies are welcomed. Thanks in advance!
If it was me, I'd try to locate a replacement cable in advance in the event you can't get the existing cable to cooperate.
Brett, I couldn't find an exact match on this website but I bet if you call this company they could find what works. https://www.oldairproducts.com/
Went up in price but here are the ones I put on my car. https://m.ebay.com/itm/EZ-Slider-Ca...158138?hash=item2f099403ba:g:7ywAAOxyZzlTdm-4
Went well. Very easy. The only thing was i bought a small clamp from Lowes' for one of the ends. Easy to adjust. Still a bit stiff (Because of the ridiculous factory bends) but way better. The cables have steel brackets instead of plastic. Make sure to buy some retainers for the cables as the originals will break.
You can buy from Ace Harware or a good hardware store. The size is 5/32 If I remember correctly. Here is a kit: https://m.ebay.com/itm/64-72-All-GM...:Buick&hash=item2ef2a7c751:g:qGAAAOSwTOtaoY3a
I used the set from Old Air Products on my '64 Skylark and they are very good repro and work perfectly. I also pulled the control, cleaned and lubed all the sliding and friction mechanisms with white lithium. They are butter smooth and require very little effort.
Its probably the blue cable. I bet its broken. The cable with the blue ends are always broken. It goes from the controls to the door that's to the right of the gas pedal at the top of the trans tunnel.
There are three cables on the heater controls and they're color coded- blue, green and red. They attach to the three doors on the heater box. The blue one goes to the far left arm. The green one attaches to the center arm and the red goes to the far right arm. Oh and I forgot the non AC heater box has the 5th mounting stud. So your either taking the fender off or drilling an access hole in the fenderwell.
The top lever? The thing is stuck tight! I'm not doing either. Haha Looks like I'm going without heat for the time being. I thought I wouldn't have to do either? This is becoming Pandora's box. Pun intended!
You know, you could drive it down to the NE spring meet next month, leave it at John's shop and catch a ride back home with one of the Massholes
Its about 3 hours without 3.64 gears So figure 4-4.5 driving at 50-55. Cmon man, I drove 5 hours each way for a hamburger in Franklin.
