Hi, Gang. I'm replacing the fan clutch on my '71 GS 350. Could someone please give me the torque spec for the four bolts that hold the fan to the fan clutch? I couldn't find anything on this in the '71 Buick shop manual. Something in the inner reaches of my old brain is whispering 20 ft. lbs. to me, but it would be great to know for sure. Thank you for any help. John
First, how the heck are you going to get a torque wrench on any of those bolts? Just get them tight with a 1/2" wrench

That's all I've ever done, grip the pulley with 4 of your fingers behind it and your thumb on the front face it, and tighten 'em up
Thanks, guys. Yes, I'm doing the fan to clutch installation on the bench, as Adam suggests. That way, a socket readily fits on the four fan mounting bolts. I appreciate the input from everyone who checked in on this. It's always good to see how the gang here on the forum will take their time to help. John
LOL..me too. Its a good idea to use a torque wrench. Especially if you tend to "Conan the Barbarian" everything. Definitely gives you the feel of what things should be tightened to. After years of doing it, your hands become torque wrenches! Someone asked me once how tight to make a lower ball joint nut. I said, "if you grunt three times while tightening it, its tight enough"
For things I can't get a torque wrench on, I usually just do 1/4-1/2 a turn past finger tight or seated, depending on the size of the bolt/nut. Get the nuts too tight and the damn studs may come out with em next time you need to take it off.
