There is a local 1986 Buick Regal for sale, 39,000 miles 2 owner car, white ext. with gray velour int. asking $9k looks clean an solid. info on window says 304 V8, is that a correct engine for this car? I don't remember, I thought they where all V6 cars? took a quick look at it last night and it made me think. anyone ? Bruce
Some got the 305 Chebbie, but most got the 307 Y code “Gutless Cutlass” motor. I had an 86 Regal with the 307 and a 2.41 rear. That motor was all washed up at 3500 RPM. It could be scary slow when getting on the highway. The 442 got the 9 code 307 with 40 more horses and the 200R4 and 3.42’s. I’m sure that helped a lot.
I had an 85 with a 307 for a winter. It became driveable after a normal q-jet and distributor went on. Don't get me wrong it was still awful. I bet a turbo would have really woke it up
You should try a '78 Cutlass with a 260 V8, TH200 (not -4R), and 2.41s.....That was literally the slowest thing I've ever owned (and remember, I've owned a lot of Fords ). And it got 9 mpg highway because it didn't have enough power to pull itself at anything above 55 mph. I swapped in a "junkyard" 350 Olds, and with no other changes it'd burn one tire through 2nd and get 17 mpg.
thanks guys, forgot about the Olds motors, did not pop the hood as I am not buying, just had to stop and check out a real nice condition Buick sitting along the roadside for sale. had to have a look!
Bruce, throw a turbo V6 in it from a wrecked GN. If I found a real nice Regal, I might consider that one day. Sell the Olds slug
