Nope...we don't get anything shipped to Canada...I live 2 hours from the Coutes/Sweet Grass, Montana border, and we use a storage company to have all our parts shipped to. Drive down, pick up the parts, bring them across, pay the tax on them, and drive home. I love the USA for all the free shipping within the 48 states.
Diamonds with rings for 789 isn't a bad price at all. Quality stuff. My Autotecs will be that plus some.
Just stumbled across this thread. Not sure where they are with these pistons, but I will be interested in a set.
No the flat tops never were made by (for) mike Phillips. Your best bet for custom pistons are the following companies they each have designs on file and can do any compression ratio and compression height: Venolia Diamond Ross JE
Thanks, my 350 has been on a back burner. Since my wife did not take to drag racing like I had hoped. Also busy with the NSS car. Thinking of getting back on it for local bracket racing. Need all the compression I can get and a light piston.
I do recommend the new Molnar connecting rods that TA sells to go with the light pistons. I think the rods are only about $500 where as we used to pay $1200 for nice rods. TA typically orders JE pistons and they can get them in any spec you want. I would start by checking the head volume cv and measuring the deck height so you can get zero deck with the new piston. The TA alum heads have a closed chamber design so it’s important to get that quench distance dialed in. Also note the valve reliefs will be placed slightly different with the new heads vs the iron. I know that diamond and JE have the blueprints for the valve placement... they should be able to make the reliefs clear both iron and alum heads.
Quality rods would be good, but check clearance, as I have heard several people needed clearance depending on cam. Roller cams mostly.
Thanks, this is not an all out effort, have stock cast pistons now, just wanting to put forged in it and make sure I have valve relief for roller cam I have. I have a good set of rods.
Scott Brown at buyracingparts.com does a nice piston. And can be customized if needed. And I believe comes with rings. An additional choice in piston.
Since the valves on alum heads were moved out & closer to center, they may have enough clearance with existing reliefs. Sure would be a pain to flycut more relief in pistons just to bolt the alum heads on with eng assembled.....
yes it would but what choice would you have at that point. such is the way of custom engine building. no different than some who buys rods piston crank have the block work done and balanced ont to find out the rods hit the cam. it truely seems that if your really pushing the edge of your combo you have your motor apart at least 2 or 3 times b4 you truely assemble it, leaves alot of room for scratches bearings and such. shops that do alot of a certain motor almost must have a set of checking bearing they use on several pre assemblies but it's the price to verify it's right and to push towards the edge.
Just thinking about the guys that think they can bolt on and go. TA will probably offer guidance for any bolt on exceptions needed. Scratches.....I guess that's why we have all those spare mockup cam, main, & rod bearings around.
My engine won't go back together until I hit 12.1 and with several engines in my yard I can pick and choose which one I want to build.
