Beginner Engine Builder: 455 Help!

The lifter valleys always have the casting flash there. Look on the sticky that he the oil mods and I believe it shows removing the casting flash. I take a die grinder and lightly shape the thin stuff careful not to take too much. Don't do it with the engine together.

How do I get this off please help?!? The bolt snapped on it?! We just tried using a left hand drill but to extract it and it isn’t grabbing at all. Is there something I’m missing ?

 

Looks like you should be able to remove the timing cover and deal with the stub left. Some heat should help loosen the grip if it is frozen on the cover.

 

We don’t care about saving the cover correct . That hole has a snapped off bolt in it, how can we go about taking it off now ? We have already given it the hammer a little !?

 

If it' frozen and won't budge, use a little heat.

 

I need help with this . I’m trying to remove this whole cover plate and all the bolts appear to be out and ready except for one that snapped off where my finger it pointing

 

There are also two dowel pins. One on each side of cover.

Put some heat on the cover around the broken bolt area.

One dowel is lower drivers side, other dowel is just under your broken bolt on pass side. Use a pry bar to pry straight away from block.

Since you're not trying to save the cover, put a long bar in through the fuel pump hole and try to pop the cover away little by little. Maybe long screwdriver/pry bar between oil pump housing and block. Get it away from block enough to get something between the cover and block, but be really careful not to gouge the gasket surface on the block.

 

Don't damage the cover getting it off, you may decide it is just fine. Lots of penetrating oil couldn't hurt the bolt hole where the head snapped.

 

Got the cover off! Minimal damage if any , and I doubt highly we will re use it

2 important things to remember now is (1) don't lose the oil slinger, and (2) don't forget to put it back on when you put the motor back together!

Glad you got the cover off. If you did break the ear off the oil pump housing where the bolt goes, don't even think of reusing that housing. It'll never seal.

 

We did break the ear and will not be reusing the timing cover.

What do you mean by don’t lose the oil slinger and forget to put it back on. You mean don’t forget to put a new timing cover on right? But what do you mean by the first statement haha! Thanks a bunch

 

Haha! Okay yes I have it! Won’t lose sight of it now.

Also what engine numbers or codes would I need to post to find out the exact car the engine came out of . Not just that it’s a 73. Anyone?
