Starting an engine build as well. Will be my first and I want to get it right. I know what I have, 74 455 that was running when I took it out of the car. The numbers indicate that it was the original motor that came out of an Electra. I have many ideas and am trying to settle on one plan. Great to see someone else on the same path.

Okay everyone ! After 2 full 8hr work days , I have completely disassembled my 73 455 down to the block! Take a look at the updated photos and let me know what you think for someone who is beyond a rookie at doing this. Next up is to find out how solid my block is and if it’s ready to be put under some high HP.

Looks good. Just don't mix up your rod caps and lose your cam sprocket bolts, they are unique.
For my first engine I built I copied the oil mods to a word doc with photos and made a small booklet for the machinist. After a few times I got brave enough to to them myself. Good luck

I believe I have my rod caps in order from front to back , there’s 5 right ? Also which cam bolts do you mean , could you try and paint me a picture to make sure I have them in order

The main caps are numbered. I meant the connecting rod caps. The cam sprocket bolts are the bolts that hold the large gear on the cam. Those bolts are low profile and hard to find at a store.
