Just wondering about the build date vs. the VIN and body numbers on my GS. The build date of 06/A? Is that either June 1970 or June 1971? With a 5 digit body number and a low VIN of 121XXX I would have thought it was s super early '71 but didn't think they started '71s in June of 1970. So, when was my car built?
I understand but, if my car was only 20,000 into the build for 1971 how could it be that it was built close to the end of the year when there were close to 200,000 cars built by Buick in '71?
It started at 100001 for each plant for V8 cars. The highest for Farmingham in 1971 was 126985 for V8 cars, so yours is definitely near the end. It's actually a little more complicated because L6 cars started at 600001 for each plant and Flint built B- and C-body cars started at 400001 and Flint built E-body cars started at 900001 for 1971.
That makes better sense now. Thanks. So, since my car is very near the end, does that mean that it was probably built with the side battery instead of the top? And what other late '71 changes, if any, should I think about?
Probably side terminal. Engineering specs dated 2-22-71. Flint logically first, then others. Unless I overlooked them, never found actual cutover dates. GMAD seemed to use what was handy, so is it possible they put in top terminal in June...??? Did not know that...knew 1, 4, and 9...never came across a Skylark 6, just "assumed" they were 1s...
