As the title states, post your reliable 10 sec race only builds, looking at building a 455 for a 69 skylark post car that will be track only and curious to see others routes into the mid 10s or faster that will hold up reliably minus freshen ups for yrs. All motor builds a bonus

87 Regal back half.. 3110 lbs with me in it.

    437 ci
    260cfm Iron heads
    12.5-1
    SP-1
    308 S cam
    1000TQ
    Stock rods, crank, no fill
    TH 400 w/brake
    5000 stall converter
    4.33 geared 12-bolt
    14x32 slicks

Best 10.42 at 126 with a DA of 2800ish feet. At sea level it would have gone very low 10's.

Simple, relatively cheap and fun. Mike and I built the whole car, I think we had more into the chassis than the motor.

I was 1997 Div 5 Super Pro runner up.. had I lifted an instant earlier, would have been the champ, as I drilled him on the tree, and ran the number. But that big 9 second mopar was catching me quickly, and it was getting dark..

This car with the motor I would build for it now, would be in the very low 8's, if not high 7's, with the showoff motor in it.. but I can assure you it would have one of my proven 850 HP 555 bracket motors in it, on a weekly basis, and be running 9.90's on the stop..

Running a car with the show-off motor would be work, but cool every once in a while.. 1200+ NA HP will get exciting.. but on a weekend to weekend basis racing with the 850 HP bracket bomber on the stop, will be more fun.. your more likely to find me in a lawn chair between rounds, than tinkering with the car... as it should be.

Someday before I die I will get back there...

It seems girdles, and block fill is a necessity to reach these times am I correct? What kind of hp numbers are you guys getting with these bracket builds?

Jim are your 555 bracket engines using an aluminum block?

Ya, I wish... I had it for 8 years, and then sold it to a local buddy of mine, Tim Hol.. he actually owns it as it's pictured here. I sold it when I started TSP, for seed money for the company, and because I got tired of guys asking me if it had a V-6 Turbo in it.

I decided I wanted to build a GS tube car.. and figured "Hey, I can use it for advertising and write it off".... and ever since that day, I have not even though about having enough time to build anything for myself. With the current overhead conditions in the shop, I have slowed down enough now to make it realistic to build myself a new car, but I have a few things to catch up on before I can do that.

Yes, currently we are using the TA 4550 Tomahawk block, and prefer the standard deck height, 3" main version for these builds.

  14. Bluzilla

    Bluzilla a.k.a. "THE DOCTOR"

My combination back in the mid 90's was as follows:

464 Main Girdle Block , No Fill
    Stock Cast Crankshaft
Custom Arias Dome Pistons (Net 13.23 compression)
Custom Steel Billet Crower Connecting Rods (7.250 center to center)
TA 308s Solid Flat Tappet Cam (Chevy Solid Lifters)
Early TA Performance Tall Port Stage 2 Heads (2 of 5) made. Full Port work. (Big Chambers & Stage 1 Valves)
    TA SP2 Intake (Balanced Runners)
Holley 9375 Dominator Modified by "Fuel Curve Engineering"
TH-400 Hard Shift Automatic (launched in drive) ATI 8" Tree Master Converter flashing at 3800 rpm
Chevy 12-Bolt w/ 4.33 gears, Art Morrison Adjustable Height Upper Arms, Global West Lowers
    10.5 x 28.5 M & H Race Master Slicks
    3770 lbs
3-1/2" Full Mandrel Exhaust Through Dynomax Stainless Mufflers and N-25 Tips

That netting consistent mid 10.50's with a best of 10.51 and 1.44 60ft. (Bowling Green 1995 GS Nationals)

I drove that combination quite a bit on the street as well, .... though it was a handful with the manual steering, manual brakes, Moroso front springs and Koni Drag Shocks.

That was in my Skylark for 18 years before parting the engine out (Rods, Pistons, and Crank are currently in Briz's engine).

If you had full port te2 heads I'm sure it's possible. ......stk block? Not sure it would live without some bottom support.

Our current 464 is no fill, Poston girdle pan with bullet main caps.....12:1........won't run on pump gas but don't think it needs 10 dollar a gallon race fuel either

^^Always been envious of that combo, never seen the car in person but it obviously does alot with very little, that's a mild stick for close to if not 600hp
