How much for this one? Do you guys think I should save it? The owner wants to turn it into a rat rod if I don't buy it. How much is it worth? It's a 71 skylark with a 350. It has been stored inside a barn for last 15 years. Rust on lower fender and qtr panels.
I'm just assuming this is going to be your 1st or 2nd classic car. Only assuming, obviously, but that's a lot of work for a guy learning the craft. If you're in love with it, go for it if its $500. Otherwise wait for a much better driver condition one for 3 or 4 grand......
So I looked up the vin, looks like the car actually is a 1970 skylark 350. 350 2 barrel bench seat made in MA.
if you get it,i have whats left of a black interior if you can use it. i also have a set/5/buick mags but id like to get a little cash for those. does that car have a turbo 400 trans and a 12 bolt rearend being a framingham car? if you are looking for a bargaining point to discuss with the owner; i paid 1500 for mine and its slightly better shape and runs and drives. exact same car as you show,diff color.
Don't know specifics yet on what's in it. Where are you located? I may take you up on that deal... I ended up paying $900 Coming with bumpers front and rear and a grill.
make sure you check whats left of the backseat for the buildsheet,even if the seats garbage. if no buildsheet/seats,then you can find out how the car was optioned built from the Sloan museum / cost 75 bucks/ dirt cheap for paperwork imo. check out Quikbuick / member here for a cast 4bbl intake if you are interested. if you do buy it Soon,lmk and i can add it to my shipment to ny. i bought a pallet full of stuff and its at the warehouse in Nc. im located in western new york state,and myself and friends are known as the Beaters club. 900 isnt bad,mostly hoping that you got the hardware to put bumpers back on and the attachment points arent rotted out. what are your plans?? color change? also,congrats on getting the grill too,as it turns out the skylark grill is harder to find than the Gs grill. ps,id like to compare vin tags sometime,see how far apart down the assembly line our 2 cars were. cheers,Rob
I might take you up on the build sheet. Honestly I thought the car was a 71 custom and with the condition it's in I was looking to build a drag car. But if I find something of value for example something rare, or rarely optioned where there would be value to restoring it, then I might restore it. As far as the intake, my dad has an assortment of buick 350s and 455s ranging in years from 70-73. I actually snagged a Poston 4 barrel intake from him just to see if I can get this engine running.
There is nothing that will make a Skylark rare enough to merit a restoration imo, do with it what you want
Custom, has the Waffle pattern interior, opera lights, carpet on kick panels, long arm rest, fold down arm rest seat or buckets. In 71-72 same applies as above, minus the long arm rest and the Waffle pattern material, they were simply pleated. And no carpet on the kick panels in 71-72 The Skylark "350" was a 1972 thing, not all 350's had the callout in the 1/4panels, I believe all Suncoupes had the "350" on the 1/4's
The "Skylark 350" was actually a '72 trim/equipment option. In '68-'71 model Skylarks, the "Custom" trim level was the highest trim level (upgraded interior trim/door panels, rear package shelf and headliner plus some outside chrome trim).
I won't disagree completely with that statement. I have had a couple Skylark convertibles which brought strong money. And, I had a '70 Skylark Custom with the optional High-compression 350 (315HP) and that car was a GS in all but name. Ran equal to the '70 GS (350) .... never should have sold that one. I think that configuration might be worth a bit extra for its rarity ... at least in Buick circles.
please forgive my question,as im not a buick guy and know little about them. but,you say that the skylark 350 was a 72 and up option only?? yet my car is a 1970 skylark 350 as indicated by the vin decoder?
He's not saying that you can't get a 350 in a Skylark in 1970, which you obviously could. You just couldn't get a model of Skylark called a "Skylark 350" in 1970.
I'm not the right guy to help you decode a VIN on a Buick, but there's lots of other guys that can, I was just answering the question about the "Skylark 350" trim package according to Hawken. Somebody will pop on and help you out with an answer, or you could post a new thread up in the Bench and get it answered lickity-split.
The '70 & '71 Skylarks w/ the 350 V8 were not noted with any '350' emblem. The '72's were prominently shown in the Skylark catalog and were a engine/trim package, not just an engine option as before. Look at the 1/2 vinyl roof treatment and stripe decal (in the picture on both the 'Sun Coupe' and the 2dr HT 'Skylark 350'). Then, on the opposing page, see the other 'Skylark Custom' & 'Skylark' models without any '350' emblems, but still had 350 engines. As I recall, the std. 250 I-6 was only available on the base Skylark models in any of these years, not available in a SportWagon at all and I don't think it was available in a Skylark convertible, either. All Custom trim levels were 350 powered.
