Thanks bud, after taking the wheel cylinder apart I had to drive a nail through the bleeder hole just to unclog it. Terrible mess but some basic work will bring it back to life.
May update.. Fixed and bled brakes then time for the first run of the season! Have to say that the power was smooth and constant, downshifting was snappy and all around it seemed like a happy little mill. Snapped a few pictures of course! Full confession, I knew I had a bit of a leak before I went on my little journey. But I was greeted with a full on stream and puddle when parked in the garage. The block plugs, thermostat housing, and all connections are dry. The water is running off the balancer and pulley like some kind of hotel centerpiece. Best guess is the timing cover.. I had used liquid thread tape on the bolts that go into the water jacket. I guess the stuff was not very happy there.. unless anybody else has an idea I am going to try some new thread sealant and hope for the best.
Ha! I sure hope it doesn’t come to that 2am edit: It was bugging me and I couldn't sleep.. crawled under the car and found the source of my puddle. The lower hose was pushed on too far as well as me not tightening the clamp enough. Having slightly dirty water sort of gave me a UV like track to the source of the issue.. slightly embarrassing, but at least its easy. And now I get to clean under the motor.
Ironing out the kinks has been fun, thanks to all who responded in my other threads helping me out along the way. The car is an absolute joy to drive even with the temporary lack of air conditioning. It is getting to the point where it is relaxing to drive rather than white knuckle wondering what I installed wrong. Managed to snap this picture at work today, it does make for a fine commuter car
Took me a couple months but I gathered all the stuff needed for the Pro6ten swap since my original a/c compressor took a dive. There was a bit of figuring but the install was successful and I get low 40’s out of the center vent. I can’t tell if the engine is running funny or maybe I’m being paranoid but it still goes down the road. I probably just need to drive it more.. Shawn tossed the offer that if I painted it black that he would throw in a reproduction sticker for the cause. Well game on sir. View attachment 395417
Had a bit of an issue with heat lately on the highway and decided to do a little something about it. Hoses were replaced, flushed the extremely dirty heater core, bypassed the core and flushed the engine as I was previously instructed. Found the thermostat was stuck in the open position, it was swapped for a new 180* unit. Then went about the business of installing an aluminum unit from Radiator Express. A lick of paint on the side tanks and a bit of trimming on the cushions was needed, otherwise pretty straightforward install. Routed the heater control valve to the passenger side of the a/c compressor.. was tired of it smashing up against the air cleaner foams.
Side note.. Really starting to regret no plugging the heat crossover in the heads when I had the chance. The heat is playing havoc on the painted intake.
Well, that will give you an excuse to repaint it closer to Buick red instead of the Chebby orange it looks like now. In the picture it looks orange on my confuser anyway.
With the flash on the engine does look rather orange doesn’t it. I assure you it’s a lovely red, except for the intake.. it looks like a sunburnt tomato ..
Yeah, in person it definitely looks red and not orange. Bummer about the intake though Taulb, I didn't notice it at Lebanon, is this a more recent occurrence?
The color has been slowly dissipating over time, very hard to tell with the giant intake blocking the view. Ill snag a better picture after work today.. Considering the amount of heat this thing produces in the engine bay I'm really not all surprised the paint is fading. The exhaust manifolds still look freshly painted though.
Possibly! This winter is dedicated to replacing all suspension bushings, cleaning suspension components, new steering linkages, remove the axle for seals and paint, then lastly scrubbing the section of floorboard underneath the fuel tank.
I must have missed this one too... Nice looking car Justin. I like it. That leak reminded me of you guys with the transmission leak at BPG in Columbus one year where you put a pan down under your car where ever you went. Funny stuff ............. - Lon
Ha, i still have pictures somewhere that were taken of us trying to fix that in the hotel parking lot. Though Taulb probably shutters to think about transmission fluid....
Thanks Lon! I'm not too proud of that leak.. and it was the first time I was ever kicked off a track. It ended up being the pump seal and the entire thing had to be removed later on. Worst part was driving home hoping the thing would make it with enough fluid and not eat itself. That and employing a pee pad wherever I parked.
