The Bogue Inlet Pier appears to the chopped up like link sausage. We are dong great under the circumstances. There have been a few crashes of trees that we have been unable to investigate. If the inline high had not deflected it to the southwest, it was projected to come right over us. If we can just make it another 10 hours, we should be OK. 620K in N.C. now without power.
We're doing OK down in South Carolina so far. Started raining about noon, no down pours, wind is here, not bad. Overnight will be a different story, eye is heading down this way and a high tide and tons of rain should be a whole different story. One of my rich neighbors has one of those air boats, swamp buggy and a freekin' helicopter so you could say...."I'm in good hands" !
If I had gone up there I'd be right in the middle of all that messed up evac traffic on 95. Probably a good thing it worked out like it did.
We are having more rain than resulted from Hurricane Matthew which flooded I 95 near the NC/SC border. Some locations are expected to receive 20-40 inches.
No we just had a power interuption too short to cause it to crank. The interruption took out power for the subdivision across the road but not ours which is underground. We had gusts in the 50 mph range with 5-10 inches of rain. But it is still raining. Rain is expected to continue until Tuesday. It is a record setting event. Leaves and limbs are everywhere. If we were one county further south or the inland high had not diverted Florence towards S. C., things would be have been grave for us. Relative to what so many experienced, we dodged the big torpedo.
Sections of I-40 near Wilmington are now flooding and are being shut down. Widespread flooding is just getting started.
