Thought it'd be fun to share little tid-bits of useless car info we may have stuck in our brains to amaze each other's drinking buddies with....I've got a few, but I'll start with one I learned the other day. If you take all the first letters of the variations of the Chevrolet Nova, it actually spells NOVA: Nova (Chevy) Omega (Oldsmobile) Ventura (Pontiac) Apollo (Buick)
I've been told I'm a fountain of useless information....here's some- You've all heard of an 1157NA bulb right? What does NA stand for? natural amber What does AC and Delco stand for? AC, as in AC spark plugs stands for Albert Champion. And Delco stands for Dayton Engineering Laboratories company. Founded in part by Charles Kettering who invented points ignition and the electric starter
In the years when they made both, the difference between a Ford F-100 and F-150 is the rear leaf springs are 1/2" wider on the F-150.
What does Cadillac and Lincoln have in common? They were both founded by the same person- Henry Leland
And for the Buick board, the side lamps on a '63-'65 Riviera were intentionally made to look like the grille on a LaSalle.
Im big with the history of car makes and what a car's logo means. Im always doing service calls at dealerships. One day I was at a Volkswagen dealer and asked the service manager why there wasn't a picture of the founder of VW hung up in the showroom. He told me he didn't even know who that was. I informed him it was Adolf Hitler. Im sure he was Googling that as I walked away. I was at a Buick dealer once and they had a vintage "valve in head"sign. No one knew that that meant Im sure you guy know this but what does the Buick emblem mean? Originally, it was one shield- David Dunbar Buick's family crest. In 1960, it became three shields to signify the three new models of Buick- the Invicta, Lesabre and Electra
REAL useless: The Hyundai "H" emblem symbolizes two guys shaking hands. The dealership and the customer:
And it just so happens that on October 4th 1962, Buick introduced the Riviera! So this is the 56th anniversary of the Riviera
Mine was one of the first ones made, in October of '62 ....1st ones had a smooth dash instead of finned, vacuum cannister without the dent, and 120 MPH speedometer.
For sure haha....I got lots of crap in there, most of it I remember when there's beer involved and nobody I'm around gives a rip.
Yes Jason , it stands for Natural Amber because the Glass was actually Amber as opposed to the Bulbs that had a painted glass that didn't stay Amber for long as it burned off from the heat . The NA bulbs stayed Amber for the life of the bulb
I guess it’s because I’ve been a parts guy, but I knew the NA, AC, and 3M questions. And RTV is ‘room temperature vulcanizing’. Patrick
I just saw a rendering of the "H" from Honda that is comprised of 3 Men . But its a little inapproite to share
And its called the Electra 225 Why ???? Because its 225 inches bumper tip to Bumper tip. Actual measurement was 224.9 inches
Just posted this in another thread, but here's some more completely useless info. Tangentially car related... In the movie Bullitt, one of, if not THE greatest car movie ever made. Steve McQueen uses a Safariland #19 upside down shoulder holster for a Colt Diamondback Speaking of movies, the license plate on Kowalski's Challenger was Colorado OA-5599.
