Hi all, My 68 Wildcat suffers from too much steering input and i would like to change up to a quicker ratio steering box. The front end has been redone (stock). Being a full size mid sixties Buick, I'm not expecting it to
do well in the twisties, but just want better reaction around town. Any suggestions as to what to buy?
I read the article below, but am more interested in a reman unit.

    Thanks, Gary

I will check it out locally (Montreal Que) but I doubt anyone does that up here. Where did you have yours done and do you recall how much? The car went into warehouse storage this week without access, so I was hoping to buy a reman to install in the spring. Is your car more drivable now? major difference?

    • Power Steering Services did mine, it's 16:1 variable now, was 20:1. Same company, diff address & slightly different name : http://www.powersteering.com/
    • Car slept a long time, only back to working on it basically this year- it's not together so I haven't driven it, no.
    • My price is no longer applicable : it was $220 in 2001. Looks like it's $428 now.

I have the faster ratio FULL SIZE steering boxes in stock. 2.5 turns lock-lock. ALL the ones mentioned are for the SMALLER 800 boxes. Mine are for the LARGER/FULL SIZE cars that take an "808" box. 13/16ths. input & 1 1/4" output. They install on the INSIDE of the frame rail from approx. '59-'76. They are a DIRECT BOLT-IN replacement. NO ADAPTERS NEEDED.
The bigger suppliers charge upwards of $750.00-$850.00, even your unit, + a core deposit of $150.00-$300.00 for a core for a FULL SIZE box. What they DON'T tell you beforehand, after you have shipped your core back, that if you don't return a fast ratio core you lose the deposit $$$$.
How could you return a fast ratio box if your upgrading??? So now your out $900.00-$1150.00. My cores are $100.00 deposit NO MATTER WHAT!!!! If you won't be doing this for awhile just go to a salvage yard & pick up ANY "808" box for $20.00-$40.00 & use that as a core. I have up to 30 days to return a core or else I lose my deposit $$$$. What YOU MUST REMEMBER this box needs to be rebuilt to the specs. required & resold to someone else. SO NO CORES THAT HAVE BEEN SITTING IN THE MUD FOR 20 YRS. & RUSTED TO DO-DO.
The boxes I have are $450.00 plus shipping charges & a core deposit of $100.00.
I have sold dozens of them with NO COMPLAINTS & POSITIVE REVIEWS!!!! One yr. unlimited mileage warranty.

Thanks guys for all the info and opinions. I'll see what's available closer to home first. If nothing pans out, I will at least have some options!

Good luck. You'll be driving yourself crazy with ALL the specs. I've ALREADY done ALL the research to make this as a non painful swap as easy as possible.

    TrunkMonkey Totally bananas

I bought a box for my Skylark from Hector (CARHEX) and his prices, workmanship and communication are excellent.

Given what Tom says about the big box, and his pricing, I would go with him in a heartbeat.

Tom, I'll go for a box in the spring as the car is in storage without access at the moment so I couldn't supply a core 'till spring.

    Gary,

I'll be pulling the box on a '64 Riv. I have which I could use as a core in the meantime if your still interested.
Just send me a PM & we could work out the details.
