Getting everything ready to try to start this motor up, purchased new battery cable (old one is missing) and there is no starter on this car. Purchased one at the local autozone, but something just doesn’t seem correct. Am I missing something or is this the wrong starter for this motor? I’ve never seen a oblong mount like this for a round starter. Also the third bolt for top of starter has no place in the starter motor I picked up. Thanks!

What do you mean by "oblong mount"?

Looks right to me, make sure you use the correct starter bolts.

Thanks, I’ll put it up and see what it looks like. Tried real quick and it was tough to get in position so I though I would check before getting creative to place it and get holes aligned. It appears that there was a third bolt originally coming down on the top of original starter, this starter doesn’t have anywhere for that bolt. Should be ok without it. Thanks again.

Question about wires. There are 4 wires going down to starter. I couldn’t find color through 50 years of grime and every time I would wipe off it would just go to black wire. Unwrapped wires to manifold before I think I can get color. There are 2 large gauge red wires that are hooked together with a large eye I am assuming has to go on large terminal with battery cable on starter. A yellow wire and what appears to be a purple wire. Purple to “s” on starter and yellow to “r”. Does this sound correct. Thanks.
