The real question is the quality/material. Do you want solid stainless, or chrome plated? You are comparing apples to oranges. A stainless nut will last forever using a 6 point socket carefully. A chrome nut will go on, and look fine on a show car, if you store it indoors and leave it alone. If you like to mess with your nuts a lot, you may have problems with the chrome chipping. That's why there's a huge price difference and some sell for 1.00 and somebody else sells for 4.00 or 5.00. You get what you pay for. My cars are running stainless, because I drive them and work on them, I'm the only person who touches my nuts. lol

 

nobody deserves those tin capped lug nuts, nobody..

 

How do I get a look at Mitch's nuts? (oh brother). Is there a website or anything?

 

Buick centers .com Mitch is a member here I believe! He sells the center caps and 3/4 stainless lug nuts! ( same as cars) I bought my first set of centers from him over 25 years ago! I had the stainless nuts made for my cars as they take the
13/16 size ! To my knowledge know one has produced these in stainless! Fusick Oldsmobile also carries the repo 3/4 nuts in chrome steel like the originals!

 

You can email Mitch at mitchromanowski@sbcglobal.net . I can't find a pic of the lugnuts on his site, maybe I'm blind. In my humble opinion they are perfect and beautiful. Mine are 5 years old and still look new. Wheels have been off several times since I put them on. The chrome ones I put on the driver are nasty after 5 years...

Those look like the same chrome plated nuts as Thornton is selling for 1.00 each.

I sell mine for $110 but that includes 2-day priority in small USPS box.

 

Do you see how high the dome is on Mitch's lug nuts, well they look like the originals. The dome is more of a high oblong shape.

The ones pictured from Motor Co. are just a half circle and do not look like the 70-72 Buick lug nuts. They might be the correct shape for earlier cars, but not the 70-72 cars.

The lug nuts carried by Mitch and Cars are correct to a T! The difference being originals are chrome plated steel! The mentioned motor co lug nuts are not correct for the early cars either! The dome is not correct and the hex size on the 1965 -68 are 13/16! Here is a picture off the 13/16 for the early cars done in stainless! Another thing to consider when buying some of the
replacement styles is the shape of the cone on the lug nuts ! Some of shapes and angles are not good and they do not seat good ! They will even deform or wreck the nut seats in the wheels!

That is not how the originals were made for the 70-72 cars. Originally they were a steel lug nut with a stainless steel cap. The earlier year cars may have been solid steel, but the 70-72 cars were not.

Wow they look great. So these (Mitch's) are the correct shape acorn style for 68-69 by all accounts?

 

According to my 1975 dated Buick parts book, 1373828 is correct for ‘65-68 A body with chrome. The ‘69-up says ‘capped’ and has the part number 414188. If you search the first number you find this:

These are the original stainless capped '71's
And you're right, they are crap. The stainless cap loosens up on the steel nut.
