Depends on what's under it, but generally speaking you give up just a little bottom end for a little more past 4k rpm
I am running it and like it. Dont notice any loss at low end but my ET's and 60 foot times both improved.
I switched over to the SP1 many years ago. My engine(s) have run smoother with it. In theory, you give up some low end power for gains up top over 4500 RPM. I never noticed any loss down low, but these engines have so much down low that losing some might be welcome.
I picked up a tenth and 1 mph on a low 12/high 11 second car over the B4B and 1" spacer. I don't have the room for a spacer with the SP1 on my '76. If I did I'd try different spacers under it and it may be worth something. Your avatar shows a cowl induction scoop so you probably have room for one. I know my '65 GS didn't have room for one with a stock hood when I ran it on that way back when. I hope you plan on shifting 5500 rpm or more otherwise I'm not sure what you'll pick up.
my motor like having a 2" spacer on the sp1. fit under my 4" cowl and stage 2 scoop with my k&n flow control breather. but it just barely fit

Unless you're using a stock or really low stall converter, have a heavy car (Riv, etc), or are towing, the SP1 is the better intake manifold. The only time you would want a dual plane is if you are towing, have a big (heavy) car or a stockish converter. Once you put a converter in the car, you've moved the RPM band to the upper end of the dual plane and into where the single plane will perform better. We've had many reports of people getting better mileage and better results passing emissions with the single plane as well. The only other reason to use a dual plane besides the reasons above are if you're wanting to retain the factory dual scoop air cleaner; it wont fit under the hood with a single plane.
Do these fit under a stock 70 GS hood? Air cleaner on a street car? Drop base of course. Do they come double drilled for Rochester/Holley? Thank you. Chris
Yes, standard 1 1/2" Drop base fits under the hood. That is what I have in my 70GS. Yes the SP1 comes drilled with both bolt patterns, BUT, there is something else to consider. They make the SP1 with either the Q-jet opening or Holley opening. The smart move is to buy the one with the Q-jet opening, why?, because with the Q-jet opening, you can run either carburetor without an adapter. Those Bulldog heads, do they make the intake sit higher? I don't have enough room for a 1/4" spacer, I doubt you'll fare any better.. There is an air cleaner with a full 2" drop, you may need that.
Yes, Wiz, the Bulldog heads are a bit higher. I tried a Corvette "deep-drop" base I bought from Ebay (Chinese replica) but couldn't make it work for the life of me! Fuel line hit--w/ my Q-jet, choke levers got in the way, etc. Which air cleaner are you referring to w/ the 2" drop? The same one I just mentioned that didn't work? Pretty sure the 2" Chinese if the one I bought that didn't work. It's pretty deep, but No room for fuel line or choke linkage. Anybody know the amount of drop in the T/A cleaner that I have? It clears the fuel line/choke linkage and appears to not rub too much on the hood w/ a standard gasket. I guess I will have to see if it can clear w/ a 1/4" spacer. Thanks to all!
