    Hi
    New guy from Ohio. I had been looking for a project car for awhile. I was looking for something a little different, something that you don’t see a lot of. After looking at lots of pics of all kinds of different cars I settled on a 1964 Buick Skylark. It took me awhile to find one, but I found one in California and after many back and forth s with the owner, and lots of pics, I bought the car and had it shipped to Ohio. I absolutely love this car! It is a 2 door coupe with the 300 engine. It is the 4 barrel version with the 2 speed automatic. I got the car in July and have started the process of getting it the way I want it. I will post more info and pics if there is any interest.
    This is my first Buick and my first project car so I have really been having fun so far. Even with the few glitches that I have already run into.

    Welcome aboard!! :)
    I too like the looks of that car;
    it would look great with some wide steelies and dog dishes.

    Good Luck with the tear down and rebuild.

    My original plan for the Buick was to clean it up, get it running (it hadn’t run for 8-10 years) and drive it for the rest of the summer. I got it cleaned up and when I got it running it had a serious knock so I pulled the oil pan and it had some stuff in it. I can’t call it metal because it was flexible but I was going to have it rebuilt anyway so I pulled the engine and took it to my rebuilder. I pulled the interior started cleaning up the engine bay and under the chassis. Under the drivers feet was the only rust in the floor boards so I cut that out and welded in a new piece. I rebuilt the brakes and put new bushings in the rear. I decided on coil overs for the front because I wanted to be able to adjust the stance. I also really wanted a 4 speed so I picked up a Muncie 4 speed. The engine and trans are ready to get put back in but I’ve had some side jobs so it’s been slower than I would like. I guess that is typical. I rebuilt the front end. I plan getting the chassis and running gear finished before I start any body work. I am planning on painting it my self. I haven’t painted before but what could go wrong.......
    The 2 main issues so far have been 1. When I was trying to put spark plugs in it, 2 of the holes were bigger that the other 6. I guess that at some point in its life they stripped the threads and had them drilled out to 18 mm. I have found some 18 to 14 mm. adapters. Has anyone used these. Any feedback? My other issue was that I bought a set of headers for it and I guess I missed the part about them being for automatics only. So I am stuck with some brand new Sanderson headers ( I bought them at the end of October and just got my tranny so I didn’t know).
    Since I’m new here I’m not sure if this is the place for this or do I need to start a different conversation somewhere else? Also, if I have stuff that I could part with (sell) is this the place for that? Auto trans, headers, front Springs. Thanks for your patience.

    Hi Mark
    Thanks for the welcome. I am from the Dayton area. I’m not sure if the car was in California it’s whole life but I was very pleased with the little bit of rust it has. Behind both rear wheel openings, drivers floor and that’s it! The rockers are solid as is the trunk floor. The front passenger side fender is damaged but it came with a new ( junkyard) fender. The trim on the roof is cool.

    Sorry, meant to mention that the original color was arctic white and I’m thinking about going back to that.
