Old big block "short" pump. Took it off the Aquamist car. GM pump dated 1978. Its got play in the bearing. I saved it thinking I was going to send it out. Getting tired of tripping over it. Do I save it? chuck it? Do you think anyone would want it?

What do you guys usually do with old pumps?

I know one of the best rebuilders just moved to I think Holden or Worcester MA. Olds pumps bring big $, Buick pumps...meh! You could leave it on your front steps or put it under your pillow and see if you get lucky with the pump fairy.

Jason I only kept stuff for a reference to compare it to new parts. Then after a good while I got tired of moving it or tripping on it too. Junk it.

OR, send it to the Flying Dutchman to have it rebuilt BETTER than new.

I've heard that the earlier(GM) impellers worked better than the aftermarket pumps. Something about them being a 6 vane impeller and the aftermarket was 5 vane, or something.

Just for curiosity, how about posting a pic of the impeller before you dispose of it. Just to document it for future reference.

Throw it out. There will never be a scenario in this lifetime where it will be hard to source. new, used or rebuilt.

With your wheel'n -deal'n luck I would check the bearings to make sure they are not 24 karat gold ,that might explain
the bearing play ......before ya toss it

Are you talking about Arthur Gould? Pretty sure Artie Gould died, the business got sold and moved up by Frank in Mass. So they changed ownership but still call it Arthur Gould Rebuilders. He used to work out of his house if I remember correctly.

I have a hard time throwing stuff out. I really need to work on that. Maybe go get some therapy. Jen is going to have two 30 yard dumpsters in the driveway when I die. No one is going to be at my wake, all my friends will be dumpster diving:D

Ok...one last time. Go ahead and pitch it. First, get the trash hauler to swap his GNX #001 for it. C’mon...we all know if anyone can make this happen, it’s you:D

If you like you can melt it down and boil off the steel , actually separate it from the aluminum , and make 2 bars of metal, aluminum and cast iron or steel .

Keep it! Storage totes are cheaper than therapy!
(You do realize that your subconscious wants you to keep it; you titled the thread ‘save or keep’!)

Yes Jason, it's Gould that moved up here to MA. I'll go in the Spring to get a rare 442 pump done there.
Right...Jen...that's who I was thinking of when I said to put it under your pillow. All guys know there's no such thing as a "water pump" fairy, but I thought if you made believe you REALLY believed, then when she felt that lumpy greasy thing under the pillows, she'd say "Screw it, I'll just take it and toss it, and leave a twenty under there instead". Then it's gone...
You know, I've actually thrown a LOT of junk parts in the trash. Then i start to think about it, and I think "Well, one day I might need that terminal on there, or I might need it for reference later". Then I pull it out of the trash! It's like I get separation anxiety from tossing it, even though I want to. The sad thing is, I'm a psych major, too.
