Hey guys, I'm replacing the positive battery cable on my 350 and need to know the stud size on the starter solenoid so i can pick a new battery cable with the correct terminal. Thanks guys.
Pretty sure its 3/8". That being said your not finding the right terminal at the auto parts store. The cable end needs to be at a right angle
I buy copper 4 ga lugs and bend them at a right angle. They sell them at the auto parts store too. I cut off the terminal that comes on the auto parts store cable and crimp on the copper lug I bent at a right angle. The terminals that come on the cable don't like getting bent like that, they tend to crack I have something similar to this- https://www.delcity.net/store/Hamme...t=Ad group #1&mkwid=AYZeowOE&crid=11472933143
DO NOT buy a starter cable from a auto parts store for your GM car or truck .. Get one like above 90 degree.... Or go the the wreaking yard even if its a side post you can convert the bat side. Make sure you use a quality battery terminal all LEAD. not zink....
How do you guys route your positive cable? The reason im doing this is because I dont like the how my battery cable goes from the starter and travels under the engine to the battery. I want to reroute it against the firewall and down the wheelwell to the battery.
You're saying it was routed under the engine from the factory? I should add this is an Olds 350 engine where the starter is on the driver side.
Yeah thats where mine is now. I just dont think GM intended for the car to be driven like im going to drive it haha
It would be a good idea to mention its an Olds engine....just sayin On an Olds engine the starter cable comes up from the back of the engine over the fender well to the battery which is on the LEFT side of the car. On a Buick 350, the cable goes under the passenger side motor mount to the battery which is on the RIGHT side of the car. So, you'll have to do a custom routing job
Yeah sorry, It just temporary while I continue to work on my 455. Ill have to see what I can do. Thanks guys, appreciate it.
