I want to put a floor shifter in my 65 skylark and my 63 wagon.

So what besides the airplane shifter has Buick made with some cool factor.

Since the wagon will get an olds moter i was thinking about using that shifter with the 3 sticks. Does anybody know what years and cars i could find one in.

    How about aftermarket.

    What are you using?

I've got a Mr Gasket ratchet shifter in my 73 - in day to day life it's clumsy and frustrating. Olds made a very slick factory console shifter from I dunno - 68-77? Of course I'm partial to the 68-77 Buick staple shifter myseld, but there's always the 73-78 X-Body shifter and console, which makes a tidy little unit.

It's nice when you want to bang the gears and play! It takes getting use to pulling the plunger up everytime it stops at a gear when you're trying to get it down to first. I myself am use to it now and don't mind it.

The wagon is getting a switch pitch 400, does that force me to a particular shifter...

Thanks for all the posts guys.

    I like the original consuel

So whats the difference between both shifters (Buick staple vs x body shifer)
    Width?
    Size?
    Or is it the consuel?
    Becasue they look a like.

Thanks for letting me know its called a staple shifter. You could see why i called the airplane shifter. I like them. I think a shifter that is off the colomn and more, funky to use makes its that much harder for the car thiefs. I have to make it hard for a thift. Can't be make it easy for them, so they pick another victim crash into a ditch.

I have realize and accepted theres some parts im just going have to pay top dolar. But i hope for those lucky finds were i dont have to break the bank.

So the Hurst cutlass body coupe are the ONLY doners? Not alot of them and I dont see people selling or parting them out.

If you’re worried about theft, DON’T put a Lightning Rod H/O setup in. Every G body gang banger around wants one or knows what they’re worth and one of them will steal it or the car and do a lot of damage to get it. If you want a floor shifter, go for it, but there’s a lot of better ways to deter theft.

As your 65 and 63 dont have a locking column, whatever shifter you get will be able to be moved without keys, and the dash ignition lock was not too hard to actually hotwire, although thats probably a dying art amongst kids.....just put a hidden kill switch in it....

Ha ha kids now a days don't even know what an ignition is, they're ruined by the technology of key fobs, auto start and keyless entry. If it doesn't have a button or voice command they don't know how to use it!

Why would they bother? Learn an obsolete skill so you can steal a hoopty, or hang around a gas station or shop and ‘slide’ a new car with pushbutton start?

I know this is an older thread but I would like to put an aftermarket floor shifter in my 69 skylark with a th350 and a bench seat. What do you guys recommend for mostly street use? Trans has a shift kit but that’s it. Also I’m really not looking for one that has the giant plastic base on it. Thanks guys!

I run a polar shifter. I like it simple easy to use and looks period really. Had a hurst v-matic before that. It was a pain to use. And once a season it would puke its guts out inside its console. Springs and clips all over. Vmatic was with a th350 lokar is on a 2004r.

I ended up buying the TCI fast gate shifter It’s simple, very inexpensive and has good reviews. I just hope it doesn’t look out of place in my car.
