can someone tell me the location of the rocker moldings clips for a ga455 molding? Replaced my outer rockers and can’t go by the old holes. Also there are 7 circular clips per side correct? Thanks
70/72 I presume? If so there are 4 to 6 disc and then the flat strap that goes on the fender and several inches back on the rocker
I have a decent original pair of the straps.....I can dig them out and take pics, etc if you want. Would let them go for reasonable $ as they are extras I won't need. I may have the circular discs as well. The straps and discs may also be available repro from a place like CARS (oldbuickparts.com) if you prefer that. I just checked CARS's site and they show the discs @$1.50 each but I don't see the metal straps. It's possible that The Parts Place sells the straps...you'll have to check.

Rob - I make and sell the best reproduction Gas Tank Pad out there. There are a LARGE NUMBER of folks on this board that have one in their cars. I'm not trying to be pushy.....just mentioned it b/c shipping costs keep going up (my Gas Tank Pad is $25 and shipping, via Fedex or USPostal - whichever is cheapest...I check both - typically runs $16-18). So....anytime I'm selling a part that is a "natural fit" for the same packaging I ship my Gas Tank Pad in I figure it's good to mention it. The metal strips won't add any weight but the ship cost will be around $9 for USPostal Priority Mail. As far as the metal rocker strips - Pics below. These are in very nice condition.....there are two rust spots that are ONLY surface rust...not pitted, crusty, etc. Easy to prep....light sanding and shoot them with some paint or have them replated if you prefer that. These were originally plated or galvanized in zinc so this pair survived very nicely. Also....I don't have paypal so payment will have to be by check or money order. Patton Thanks for the order. The check went out today. I have one more request. Is it possible you can take one molding off your car and let me know the location of the straps and discs? Distance apart from each other? Distance from fender and rear quarter edge? I cannot go by my old rocker as the previous owner butchered it and there were holes everywhere. I want to put these back in the correct stock locations. It really does not mention this in the assembly manual. It only shows the part numbers for the straps, discs and screws. Thank you very much.
Rob - I'm headed to a salvage place today that also has a '72 Skylark. I'll see if it had these rocker moldings and take my camera and tape measure. The disc placement is determined by the screw/mounting holes since the mounting screws hold the straps in place AND ALSO hold the discs. Screw/mount holes are pre-punched in the straps by the factory. There are a couple more Skylarks out there that may also serve as easy measurement candidates. If they don't have them then I'll check my car.....it's in storage and the rockers haven't be put back on yet. Thanks and I'll be back later.
Here are today's pics.....these pics show the rocker stainless mounting holes down the D SIDE rocker (car is a '72 Skylark 2 door hardtop). All pics are with the tape measure hooked on at the FRONT edge of the rocker. I didn't get a measurement for the last hole....closest to the rear wheel opening....but you can see it's maybe 3" or so forward of the back edge/end of the rocker. I failed to measure how far DOWN the face of the rocker the screw holes are.....I'll get that info possibly tomorrow. I'll double check the holes in the pics below against my car just to make sure. The metal strips mount on the FIRST TWO (most forward) holes in the rocker....and they run up onto the fender skins where there are more holes.
Patten, did that car have the big wide GS type stainless like he needed? I see no one has answered his question. There are 5 discs used per side. No more and no less. 5 discs plus the straps that go from fender to rocker panel. This diagram does not give distance but the rear most is pretty far back. Diagram gives you an idea.
It’s interesting how the diagram on left appears to show lines for 6 discs but upper right shows part numbers and 10. So five per side. My cars had 5 per side anyway.
Dave - I don't know which moldings the yellow car had.....no moldings on the car at the salvage place (moldings WERE on the car at some point from the factory hole evidence but someone removed long ago). I'll go check my car and compare the number of holes and placement. I know mine has the factory installed WIDE (ie - GS) moldings so it will serve as a confirmation. FWIW - the yellow car has the screw holes placed as follows: >First two screw holes at the front of the ROCKER (for the strap attachment) - these are 3/4" down the face of the rocker - with the tape measure end hooked on OVER the top of the rocker edge >Disc holes - 1-1/16" down the face of the rocker - again with the tape measure hooked on OVER the top edge of the rocker
Rob - Check your PM box for tracking info...shipped today. I checked the rocker/metal strap holes on my '72 Stage 1 today. SLIGHT variation compared to the yellow Skylark above (probably factory "sloppiness"). The first two (most forward holes) holes are still 3/4" down from the top edge of the rocker...again, this is with the metal tape measure end hooked over the top edge of the rocker. The slight variation is the next FIVE holes (for the discs)....these are 1" down (same method....tape measure hooked over the top edge of the rocker) instead of 1-1/16". These measurements are to the CENTER of the screw holes.
