What a shame. Almost 900 years old. It can be rebuilt, but all the paintings/statues/stained glass and religious artifacts will be gone.

They were able to save the cathedral, but the spire collapsed.
The fire is under control now.
President Macron was on national tv and said they will rebuild the Notre Dame.

This is a tradegy for the French. But thank God no one was killed or injured. They will rebuild it.

It took over a 100 years to build.....doubt that that will ever be accomplished again.....what a great loss to mankind....

I hope all the people that were doing the renovations were resident certified journeyman tradesmen......that would be the ONLY people i would EVER let work on one of the masterpieces of early France/Europe.

I was trying to explain to my wife the significance of the loss and couldn’t come up with anything comparable. Nearly a thousand years old. Tragic.

I had the opportunity to visit Notre Dame and I will say it is humbling to stand at the entrance to a treasure like this. A tragic loss, hopefully they can rebuild but it will never be the same. The world has lost one of its treasures.

No matter who you are, where you are, what your religion is,what your politics are......you have suffered a loss with this event.....directly or indirectly.....it may affect you now....it may not affect you for 20 years.....the loss of the past and it's lessons and history never helps the future......

So much history lost. We can't live in the past, but important artifacts from it serve to remind us of those who forged our future.

What was the purpose of this post?

At 10 AM EDT CNN reported that $679 million has already been pledged for the rebuilding of Notre Dame. They went on to say that the number could "easily" reach $1 Billion by the end of today.

I still wonder if it was arson? A historical loss like that is mind numbing. Much of the knowledge used to build that with primitive tools is gone forever.
