15 X 10 rim and P295 Tire Combo Too Wide For My Wheel Wells.

You need a little more backspace (like 5.75" on a 10" wide wheel) to fit the tire inside the wheel well without jacking it up with airbags etc

 

I have (not mounted yet) 15 x 10 with 5.5 inch backspace which will hold a 315 tire. Checked pretty carefully before buying, will update with pics once mounted and on car.

Thanks Larry, those 325 MTs wont suit my budget, I can get 275 Street tyres much cheaper with far more tread, and I already have 275 MT ETs for the occasional strip trip.
325 MT ETs dont make sense to me mileage on trips dollarwise and wet roads wise.
Will the 275s fit and look ok on a 10" rim?
I gather youre saying Id be better using an 8" rim and 275 tyre ?

This is my new set. 325/50/15’s. Replacing my Prostars that also have 325/50/15’s on them. Both have 5.5” backspace. They don’t hit anything,BUT it’s tight. I also don’t have any existing original rear suspension bushings,and I have a lot less bodyroll than when it was stock.
Another option is a 295/55/15,if you are looking for a drag radial. Not too many options for regular radial tires. The 295/50/15 is too short for my liking,but would work.

 

T I am currently running 15x10 Centerlines with 5 inch BS.I had 15x10 Dog dish rims with 5 inch BS and had less space than the Centerlines.I put the dog dishes on my 73 with no issues They had BFG 295/50/15. I currently am running Cooper Cobra 295/50/15 tires on the Centerlines though.

 

I have the exact same issue as the OP, running Summit Prostar clones in 15 x 10/5.5 BS with BFG Radial T/As and I had to trim my fender lips down too. I plan to trim a little further when the car is running. Definitely rubs more on one side than the other but hopefully that will go away when I replace the body bushings some day!

Phil has 1/8" offset, and has to run airbags to lift the rear. I believe, I may be mistaken, but his issue is the tire won't tuck in under the outer whelwell at stock ride heigth. With a little more BS, that could be fixed.

Mine that are 11" have 1/4" offset like OEM (so 6.25" BS) but the outer fender will sit down nicely (I do have a slightly narrower tire at 295, the lip is trimmed) albeit it's very tight, over the outside of the tire at stock ride heigth, or lower if I went that route.

 

Are you at or near stock ride heigth in the rear or is the rear elevated?

Nope.. I have absolute stock(but new) GS 455 rear moog springs (I thought they were 5385 or similar number) and no air bags. I want to stiffen it up a little and bought cargo springs from Jason Cook.Hoping it will give me an inch more ride height.I am going the vintage look and will add Hi Jacker air shocks for the look.I don't think I'll need a couple pounds in them though

 

My rear is down,but not lowered. The tread area of the tire is up in the wheel well.
A wheel with 5.75” backspace would be ideal,but it would need to be custom-ordered. A 6” backspace is too much,and if it is a 15” diameter rim,the inner bead area of the rim will start to interfere with the lower shock mount. A larger diameter wheel will go over it. A Moser housing has the shock mounts moved in behind the lower control arm,so no problem there either.
When I ordered the S71 rims,I noticed that they offered a 10” wide and a 9” wide. When you look at the specs of each wheel,the 10” wide is 10.3”,and the 9” is 9.3”,so I chose the 15x9. My ProStars are 15x10,that are right at 10” wide. I figured the slightly narrower rim will suck the tire in very slightly. I just didn’t want it any wider than it was before.

 

A friend suggested I buy and ship Vintique style 57 Buick 15x10" to me at $309 USD each, had a look on their website and theyre only 5" backspace, pretty sure theyd foul my outer lip.
Jusy had a crawl around under my car with the 15x9" 275/60/15 MT ET combo I run on the strip and took a 3 shots each side from front, up, and back.
Youll see I have plenty room in back with these 9" rims that are 5 1/4" backspace

 

Jacked the Buick up and put her on stands and had a better crawl around underneath, also removed one of the 9" rims with 275 60 15 ET Streets on to verify backspace, now I think @LARRY70GS will verify that backspace is from the mounting face on the inside of the wheel where it contacts the brake drum, to the very outside edge of the rim.
This being so my backspace on the 9" is
5 1/4".
I reckon if I get the 15x10" made up with a backspace of 5 3/4" that the wheels will fit and clear everything, the only part that may be real close is the bottom edge of the shock absorber and a kiss with a grinder will give clearance if need be.
Ive sorta seen the light on rear rubber and will go to 295/50/15 Galaxy (RWL)
being only 10mm wider either side than the 275's they will safely fit the wheelwell and overall rolling diameter is very close to the original G78 /14 so speedo should be real close.

 

ok got a call on my rear wheels the other day...Chromed rim bands are still in bloody Melbourne!
and Ian Splatts flying down there for 7 days so no way known Ill have my 10" fats on for this weekends Wintersun 2.0 show and festivities.

Not the end of the world but as my mate Brett from the tyre shop a few doors down brought me in a pair of legal treaded 295 50 15 Mastercraft Avenger GTs and threw them in my 7" Buick rims to tide me over.
Interesting theres lots if clearance still, well over an inch at the back and 3/4" on the outer.
Fatter rear boots really suit her!
and itll get better when my 10s arrive eventually
