Recently had a family friend offer me a chance to buy their old Mustang, since it is such a rare and nice car I could not help myself. Car was drag raced all its life and has been sitting in storage for over forty years. Since it was used mainly for drag racing, some of the original K code specific parts are long gone. Thought I would check in with my Buick community to see if you guys might know of a Mustang guru who might have some parts they could sell. Any leads appreciated. Thanks in advance, Jeff
Nice! Call my buddy Buzz Rose in Helena. He's got at least one of everything Mustang related, including cars. And if he doesn't have it, he knows someone who does. https://www.google.com/search?q=buz...rome..69i57.3983j0j8&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
Jeff , There is this wiseman guy over in Lucas with contacts at Dallas Mustang . PS you need to display it at MCACN this November . Regards DL
Some old photos (black and white from 1972, old color from 1968). The garage shot on jack stands is where it has was stored, some in my driveway the day I picked up. Trunk full of old drag race trophies. I know the hood scoop is hideous.
Jealous! I love that color green on the '67-'68s....very cool. Congratulations on the score. I'd dang near keep it the way it is as a time capsule drag car. Those little K-code 289s ripped.
Congrats! That's an amazing find. Tough call on that hood scoop.... keep it for the history, or replace it 'cause it's hideous! The first resto I was involved in as a teen was a friends maroon '67 fast back. I ended up buying a 66 GS from his older brother just before I turned 16.
Glad you approve. The hood will be removed and kept with the car, I cringe ever time I look at it. Probably cool in seventies, not so much today.
In today dollars the K code engine was $3450 plus the GT package which was mandatory @ $1565. In retrospect the 390 ci would could be had on any model was $263. ($2000 in 2019 dollars) That car has quality restoration written all over it. Good job!!! Nice score.
Having owned quite a few 390s (and currently owning one), I think stock for stock, a K-code 289 would murder one in a race.
Stock for stock a hydraulic lifter '67 390ci engine rev'd to a mighty 4600 rpm while the little solid lifter 289 would rev to over 7000 rpm if you would let it. I loved that little 4" bore motor.
Agreed, sir....... Hey Jeff, did the car happen to come with any timeslips? Or did they tell you what it used to run?
