Pre BG update.. I decided to really dive in more to my timing curve and tweak a few things. A few nights of researching and asking the Wizard himself granted me the confidence to proceed. First things first.. the distributor was taken apart and all parts cleaned. I constructed a very crude vacuum advance limiter and put everything back together. Then came trial and error of swapping springs, weights, asking the wife to watch the tach, change parts, and repeat. Im lucky to live by an Air Force base and checked my total timing in tune of the passing roar of C-17s as to not upset the neighbors much. Had to get a bit creative in a few areas but landed on 10 initial, 22 mechanical advance, and 9 vacuum advance all in at 2,400 rpm. Compared previously to initial 15, mechanical 14, vacuum 16 all in at around 2,000 rpm. Sure its all single digit changes, but that is the fun! Best part of it all is I got rid of that pesky high load / uphill ping. Next up is to find out where a slight exhaust tick is coming from and get my high idle choke setup proper.
Well BG came and went, and the car drove there and back very well. A bluetooth speaker was placed on the dash for some entertainment as the miles passed by, sure beats trying to tune in AM radio for 5 hours. The best part was piling friends in the car that I have not seen for years as it served daily driver duties for a few days. Overall it was fun being able to hop in and drive anywhere without a worry. However I did learn that she is no fan of below 40* temps for the first few minutes of operation, and Cincinnati construction areas and traffic are very interesting to drive through in a classic. Heck yes it was, and I still remember the starting settings if you need to revert back. But I really think that kit from Mark will help out a bunch.
Well.. not a thing has changed with the GS since the last update. All of my time has been spent renovating the home, and then purchasing a new one. However... she has a new garage spot to live in So now for the first time I have some decent room to work and tinker. My winter update plan for rear end suspension has not changed but it looks like it will be a summer project now. Though I honestly have no clue where all the parts I bought are. That, along with the new sway bar and radial tires on 15s. Free time is at a critical shortage, and never in my life have I ever thought I need to plan ahead 3 weeks to install a sway bar just to get another task override my decision at the last moment. Well anyway.. a gratuitous picture. And can't forget the wife doing a superhero pose in the barn..
245/60/15s are on! That and a 1 1/4 sway bar up front. Took the GS for a nice little cruise this morning and managed to snap a few pictures along the way. She really does handle much better and is more predictable since this little upgrade. Tearing up the back county roads in this thing is such a blast.. Just don't pay attention to the 2 foot bird poop splooge on the left fender. It was like being crapped on by an ostrich.
Was just discussing the bird crap thing with the girlfriend. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME I drive one of the nice cars, the effin' things crap all over them. Monday I washed the Riviera and we took it for a drive. Went inside a restaurant to eat, came outside, and the car was covered in what must've been the same bird that hit your's, some sort of pteradactyl or flying ostrich....and it didn't hit any other cars near me, which were just regular newer cars and trucks. Two days later I cleaned the Mach 1 and brought it to work. Parked in the employee parking next to everyone else in their regular cars. Come out at lunch, and the Mustang is covered in s*** and everyone else's is just fine. Today I drove the Caddy to work after waking up at 5:30 this morning to wash it. Went to a little fast food restaurant for lunch real quick. Come outside......yeah, you guessed it. Covered. I swear the little bastages know exactly what they're doing. They have to.....
Its a real thing! I have never had bird poo land on the hood and fender, and spatter all over the windshield from the landing. The flock targeted me.. I haven't washed my truck in 3 weeks and it looks great. One 30 minute drive after 5 months parked and the GS is bird Picasso.
