Would a bad hood hinge suck the hood down below the fender like this? Other side lines up when the hood is closed. Seems like one side gets sucked in further just before it closes…This is on a 70 GS. Thanks!
That's a good hood hinge imo!!, them are hard to find ha, the hinge will adjust up slightly on the fender,..is the cowl seal in place? Worst case scenario if its adjusted all the way up and the seal is present, and the fender is positioned correctly then you either massage the hinge holes for more adjustment or shims or a combination of both
No, don’t have any cowl sealnin place. No rubber at all. Just the two hood stops in the rear corners. Just ordered new side hood bumpers that go on the fenders and stops for the cowl. Even without all that, body shop guy says driver side is fine.
Should have a cowl seal, 3 rubber bumpers across back top of hood, 2 rubber stops on cowl, 3 rubber stops on core support, and 2 rubber bumpers on side of each fender. If those are all in place and adjusted and it still does that, yeah, it could be the hinge. I hate adjusting fenders and hood, it is a time consuming pain in the butt.
Not to hijack the thread, but the rear of my hood has the opposite problem. Sticks up above fenderline. Can I massage the hood hinge to fender holes on the hood hinge itself to "adjust " the rear of the hood lower? Again, apologies for hijack....Jim
Jim, I'll take a ride on your hijacked plane. I agree with Ethan. Sucking it down is good. Sticking up is a bad spring. The drivers side sticks up on my 68 GS. No Springs available. Bummer!!!
Common problem,..the springs are a little weak I just push it down after I close it,..but yea u can work the holes a little to get a little more drop on the hinge
Yeah, I have to push one side down a little bit when I close it. I've got all the bumpers from the parts place via ebay
Mine will push down , but returns to raised up a bit after a ride.... Lines up nice on both fenders until the last 12" or so, perhaps she is a wee bit bent. I'll hog out the hinge holes this winter and hope for the best.....thanks guys.....Jim
No worries on hi jacking. My low hood was actually fixed with adding the bump stops in the back. However, my hinges were loose and have since replaced them with another (used) set of hinges.
Riv had the sticking up issue on the rear right corner. Every part was known good. All bumpers and stops in place. After weeks of fighting it I took her to my body shop. He found that the L front of the core support was lower by over an inch due to a accident in the very distant past had probably bent something. We added a extra think rubber shim made from a old body mount and it cured the problem.
