Anybody know how the 70 console wiring was routed, not seeing that page in my very rough assembly manual. The harness has an eyelet for a screw to attach to something, but I've only parted out one 70 console car and that was long ago,...
Around the middle iirc, I honestly don't know if I need the thing, it's for my X I guess a better question would be when did they move the neutral safety switch from the shifter to the column for the floor shift cars,...maybe my X should have it in the column?? Idk
Not sure about 68 or 69 but I'm pretty sure they moved it in 1970 the shifter on the floor I just sold that harness with the shifter not too long ago or I would post a picture of it It was out of a 71 but I do believe 70 was the same back up lights and neutral safety switch.
I found a couple pictures of the wiring harness I just sold it screws on top of the hump with a quarter inch head screw with a big washer
You remember where it met the main harness at? I'm sure it will kinda "find its way" I just find have the main harness in as I have to paint the dash this week,..but done the carpet today,..then realized I for got to route the console harness
If you have the correct wiring harness it connected right in the middle of the dash under the radio there should be a connector there. I just sold a complete wiring harness for a floor shift car out of a 70 GS 455 . I would contact ToddGS on the board and talk to him I'm sure he could help you figure things out.
I think early 70 changed from console neutral safety switch to column mounted. It was definitely column in 71 but not sure when it changed.
I've parted a few 71/72 and they were all on the column, was the one on your X on the column? I assume it was..
My April 1st build '70 GSX had the switch in the column, same with my very late June '70 GS 455 Auto with console, so likely a mid year switch thing.
It may also depend on where the car was built the shifter an harness pictured came out of a march 70 GS455 non-fint built car I sold the rest of the factory wiring Harness to Nelson for his 70 GSX restoration
There is an assembly diagram somewhere that shows the shifter switch that has CANCELLED written across it. It would have been a mid year change across all plants although actual time may be different between plants.
I owned a January 1970 Flint built GS455 that had the switch on the shifter. As I recall the eyelet mounted with a 1/4" screw in a hole drilled on the left side of the transmission tunnel under the dash. I've noticed dimples at the same location on later built cars. The harness was routed along the left side of the blower outlet.
Not sure if this helps but the consolette wiring for tach had 2 eyelets. One mounted to the screw that held the defroster duct to the heater box and the other mounted to the hump. This is how mine was routed.
