I was going to make the comment about that when all the skepticism start popping up about the heads. Worse case scenario, lets say, the heads flow the same as stock heads, they likely are going to weigh significantly less. That being said, I doubt that TA would put out a product, like cylinder heads, that weren't an improvement over stock iron heads. Looking forward to the flow numbers before and after. P.s. thanks for the shipping update
Right, so if a Buick 350 is 450 pounds ready to go and the intake weighs 55 pounds and the heads are 50 pounds each. We are going to have some pretty light potent little engines. My sheet metal intake weighs 12 pounds, 57 for alum heads, so we are looking pretty good I would say.
I'm sure the packaging weighs the same or more than the valves and springs but we will weigh them and report back. Last I remember weighing a 350 head it was 55 pounds if I am not mistaken. Anyone got a scale handy to confirm??
For reference, a 300 iron engine weights 50 lbs more than a 300 with alloy heads and intake. In round numbers, 400 vs 450 lbs. I doubt your 350 will be much different, the 340 isn't. I think there was maybe 2 lbs difference in the block weight. This is from actual weights taken from the component parts. It's definitely a light engine for the displacement. Jim
Yes good info, we will see. It doesn't really matter to me exactly how much weight we loose. The performance will be the best part.
I have a set of iron heads I can strip down and get the weight of for reference later this week. I also can weigh them complete with valves and dissembled. I would like to know the difference. I would also like to know what a TA stage1 intake weights. I can weigh a orig intake stripped down for reference as well. It would be interesting to see what the weight savings are. Let me know if you want me to weigh this stuff. With all the savings of weight (Headers, Intake, Heads) It makes the little 350 look little better than it did in the past. I also think the 350 is a very reliable motor that seems to be able to put up with a lot of abuse.
Yes please get all those weights if you can. I have a list of actual weights that Bill Mah, I will dig that up.
Valves and springs and keepers and such won't weigh over 5 lbs if that. probably more like 2. Yeah that will make a difference in ET. lol Throw a 5 lb weight in the trunk and see if the seat of the pants can slow you a down.
If you take 50lbs est. off the heads, and subtract the difference from stock to alum. intake, it seems like you would have to re-coil spring the front end down a bit. That's like a 70lb weight loss no?
Weights Iron Head: . 51.2 lbs Alum Head: 25.4 lbs (2.0x, 50.4% Lighter) Iron Intake: 52.1 lbs Alum D/P: . 16.4 lbs (3.2x, 68.5% Lighter) SP3 Intake: .18.2 lbs (2.9x, 65.1% Lighter)
Looks like we’ll be dropping 85# from our Buick 350 engines. Since my front springs are 529# per inch, the change in ride height will be essentially unmeasurable.
