What is the Year and Model of YOUR Classic Buick

Got a 63 wildcat convertible, nice and red... and picked up this brand new 85 lesabre, collectors edition. Bought at 12,054 original miles, estate sale, housed in the same Massachusetts garage its whole life. Has never seen a New England winter, but it will now... just a little. Just turned 16,000 mi.

 

Jeez...just found one of my old posts here dating back to 2009.
Still have the Electra, now also own the Wildcat I traded off to get the Electra, and the 46 just came off eBay going to it's 2nd person after me.
From the original post, I'm going to keep the Electra considering I can't afford a 59 Invicta and there are none left in Canada.

I'm keeping both of these around for the next 10 years or so.

 

1963 Riviera, 401, early build so smooth dash, 120 mph speedo, and un-dented vacuum canister. I know my car makes the purists cringe......

 

Here’s my 53 Super restomod at Goodguys Puyallup 2017 getting the first ever bitchn buick award. Also have a near done 40 special with a twin carb 41 straight 8 and lastly a 51 special 4 dr low miles I’m second owner.And a 52 F1 I’m also second owner of. That’s grandson taking first test drive and making sure the horn works.

I own a 1970 Buick LeSabre 4 door hardtop. Its an old police special. I know its not rare (yet) but the way I see it, everyone favors 2 door models and more 4 door models are getting crushed every year, making it and increasingly rare car. Has a 350-2 motor in it. Git her for $1000 with near no rust on her, 90,000 original miles, 3 speed turbo-hydro transmission. I am trying to keep the car as original as possible. Needs a fresh coat of paint, am having the seats reupholstered, rebuilding the whole front of the engine block here soon, is classic GM green and runs very smooth when going down the highway. Just a couple small wiring issues is the only annoyance I run into with it. But all in all, a very well built and preserved car for one I found sitting out in the elements for 6 years prior to me owning it.

 

1965 Buick Skylark Sport. 300/4 barrel. 33,000 original miles. Cream with a black vinyl sport top. Crager SS's with knockoffs and dual exhaust. All original.

 

1955 Buick Century Resto-mod. 401 nailhead from a '64 Wildcat along with it's 3 speed tranny and an unknown rearend.

It's a work in progress. All new fuel system due to a rusted out original gas tank, new radiator, front disk brake conversion in progress.

Still needs new wheels, stereo ......

We need more pic's!!! Same color I think as the 66 Wildcat my pops bought new expect it was a 4 dr sedan..Was a sky blue??
When did Buick use the block lettering on the rear quarters instead of the cursive? First production runs or later in the year runs?

 

I can't answer about the lettering. I know that mine has the block lettering. The car was painted this shade of blue by my brother-in-law when he owned it. He headed to town for the paint and forgot to take a picture for reference. This shade was his "best guess". Next year, I plan on painting her a shade of "robin's egg" blue. This year, it is mechanics and body work. I am working on her as I can afford it. One step at a time. Pictures I have don't do the car justice yet. Right now, it is at the mechanics for the inspection that Alberta requires for older out of province vehicles. It required some front end bushings and front end parts, plus a heater core. Hopefully, I will be done today. He ordered the heater core on Monday, 2 day delivery, 2 hours labour to install it. I am looking forward to getting it back and starting the small amount of bodywork she requires. I have a set of hood springs to replace the original ones, off a 65 Wildcat. Get rid of the tomato stake.

It's a little darker blue than I thought, nice color for sure..

 

As I said, he guessed at the shade. It is close, but darker than the original shade. The shade I am going to paint her is a lot lighter than what it is now. I saw the shade online that I want and will take a picture with me when I get the paint. Here is the picture of the same car in the shade My wife likes best. This is my goal. Mine is not the GS edition though.

Does yours have dual exhaust?

 

Mine has the single exhaust that came originally. I think I will leave it that way as I am trying to restore it back to new, well, as close as I can afford.

The 425 in your 66 Wildcat is red, I thought the only red colored 401 or 425's were in the 66 Skylark GS, the Wildcat GS and the Riv??

The 425 in Wildcat was red, I've seen a few and yanked parts off of a few more. That 425 would also likely have the rare Q-jet and manifold; - good stuff if you can get it to work.

Someone here is or was selling a green intake and Qjet. I believe it was stock??
I did buy a complete 425 out of a 66 Riv back in the day. I put the intake and Q-jet on my 66 Skylark GS. It didn't run to well, not bad but not a crispy throttle. It obviously needed a rebuild. When I took apart the 425 it was LOADED with carbon. Not a few pistons but on all of them and everywhere, the block, the heads, the intake ports etc..easily 1/16 to 1/8 to inch thick. Had one bent push rod too.. I remember the junk yard guy telling me it ran great I was planning to rebuild it anyways but still can't believe those words came out of his mouth..

Yup, it would be mine. And it was initially red when I stripped it off the wreck. The only reason it's green now is because I tried to run it on my 401. For some reason the carb wasn't working out, I paid a ton of money to have it completely refurbished, and while it looked pretty, it ran like a toilet. I'm still so PO'ed at it I haven't taken it apart yet to figure out what went wrong. Yes, I had it for sale, but shipping out of Canada for something like that is an easy $100 to start and not worth it when the cost of the unit is taken into account. So it's still here, holding down a section of floor in my garage.

 

Ok there goes the mystery of the rare green Q jet intake
I'm sure your keeping it now for the rare factor or I would hope so.. I have a little story about cross country nailhead intake.. It's actually boring but I will say it..
Back in the early 80's I was swapping intakes on my 66 GS a bunch of times as it's only a 1/2 affair on these motors. The Q jet that I mentioned, a Offy dual quad, and a factory dual quad..
Anyways's I was putting back the factory AFB intake and the chock on the carb had cracked a while before. I had put a manual chock knob on the dash and through the firewall and didn't get to hook it up yet, so it wasn't mounted to a bracket so the chock's tubing just laid there on top. While bolting on the intake in a rush I didn't notice the inner wire off the chock tube was in between the intake and the head on the front left. I broke off the front half of intake bolt hole. I didn't even think they could braze it back on in the day..
Anyways my sister and brother inlaw had gone a honeymoon driving cross country and they found a car yard in CA. She still had 5 days of honeymoon and this intake went with them everywhere and they finally flew back and my brother inlaw carried this intake manifold in there suit case..
They took pictures of this car yard and there had to be 100 Buick's stacked on top of each other bascily rust free.. If we only knew before they crushed them..
