I searched but cant find the info.

Will a girdle with or without a halo fit in a stock 65 skylark frame? I seem to remember the halo will not fit but by how much? and if so what needs to be done to the frame? I understand a girdle will fit with a factory pan but a girdle with halo requires aftermarket??

Are you saying you want to use a Halo AND a Girdle? Not sure that will work. I know the oil pans that Steve Reynolds makes are markedly different in the front for girdled motors. 64-72 GM A body frames are very nearly identical except for boxing.

I’m talking about TA PERFORMANCE part number TA 1105/H block girdle and possibly with TA 1106 halo that bolts to the block girdle part number TA1105.

Thank you Larry but my question concerns the frame. Specifically a 65 skylark. The oil pan is much less of a concern then my frame. And I seem to remember reading it can be an issue in these years. I’m looking for anyone that can confirm frame fitment with a girdle or maybe a halo.

What I am saying is the fit will depend on the Oil Pan. BrunoD has a 64 Racecar. His engine has a girdle. PM him.

Just talked to Bruno. No modifications to the frame to fit a girdled motor, but he has a custom 10 quart oil pan.

    This is promising news.

Just talked to Bruno Jr. He tells me he has a Steve Reynolds Pan on the engine and there is plenty of room. His engine is even set back some. I say you should be fine as long as you get the right oil pan.

What headers you planning on running?

TA stage 2. Unless there is others that fit the 65 better. TA is the only ones I know of for this application.

Back in the day when I ran iron block stuff, I ran a girdled & haloed set up without any modifications to the stock frame crossmember, and I took a stock steel pan and made it "clear" and went deeper... It's easy and way cheaper, don't get me wrong, Steve R. makes great pieces, if ya got the cash, let him do the work! I didn't have to mess with the factory frame cross member until I went to a rack & pinion set up, BIG wheelies damaged the cross member, so I had to "upgrade and repair" anyways...... One thing I do remember doing to the frame, I cut access holes in the frame perpendicular to the frame motor mounts, for easy access of tightening TA adapter mounts to the frame....

As much as id like an aluminum pan. I dont think that is in the budget. especially if viewed as the best Return On Investment pan. Im still a ways away from that decision. I have a bare steel pan now I can see about getting to work, and installing baffles.

I would just love to see a photo of a "girdle and halo". I thought the girdle did everything the halo does, except a hundred times more effectively. In other words, I thought a "Halo" was the imposter, with the girdle doing the actual work. I never heard of folks using both until this thread.

Page 24 on TA performance catalog. I had always thought whenever a girdle or halo is talked about. That this is what they was referring to.

That is what I thought until I looked at the TA Catalog.

Come on you guys are supposed to be the experts teaching me. Not the other way around hahaha.

I have to ask now. Is someone else making Buick 455 girdles? Far as I know it’s only TA Performance making our Buick performance stuff. Poston went away years ago.

Noooooooo! I'm no expert. I come here to help and learn in the process. I learn something new here all the time.

You say an aluminum pan is not in the budget. Not sure what pan you plan on using with this motor equipped with Girdle and Halo, and still have it fit in a stock chassis.

I’m planning on using the TA P. 1511c pan it is referenced in a note on the very same page 24 in the TA P catalog. It’s the stock pan without the single exhaust crossover provision. Hence my question that started this thread.

No need for both,..one or the other is fine.

Unless you plan on make 750hp or spinning it to 7k I wouldn't fool with either.

    Spend your money elsewhere
