I've posted a few times about issues I'm having with neighbors tearing through an easement on my property on full-on unmuffled moto-x race bikes, four wheelers, side-by-sides and 4X4 trucks spooking horses, radio's blasting all hours of the day and night. LE's, Code Enforcement and County Commissioners will do nothing even though they are recorded, laws and codes being violated

Well Friday night a neighbor and his wife chased down and yelled at a group of teens who were out harassing the neighborhood on their four wheelers and dirt bikes. I did not witness the event but apparently one of the kids pulled a pistol and fired over the heads of the couple. Sheriff's were called met the couple on my easement by my house so I witnessed and heard the following. The woman wanted charges filed against the kids as she knew one of them and the Deputy took all the information, had her sign a form. He then proceeded to tell the couple he had to do a search of their vehicle as part of the proceedings. When the husband refused they were told charges could not be filed and no further action would be taken. WHAT!

In Florida you cannot carry a pistol off your property if you are under 21 (all the kids are teens) much less discharge it in the direction of anyone.

How does this not get investigated?

What does one incident have to do with the other?

This is getting way out of control as these kids just keep getting bolder with the LE's protecting them.

I never heard of anything like that, sounds like a crock of BS to me. If I were the neighbor's I'd go have a talk with the county attorney.

Ya, ok, but what's your neighbor hiding.

An LE stops me anytime, anywhere, and wants to search my vehicle... I will just hand him a plastic bag and with a smile tell him to pull the old french fries out from under the seat while he's there.

I understand the whole " violate my rights" arguments, but, in this instance, if your trying to get something done, then it's a no brainer to do whatever it takes to make them act.

They needed to search the vehicle, to see if your neighbor had a gun and the threat was reciprocal.. no doubt.

Cops can't take anyone's word on anything, because far too many of us will say anything it takes, to get what we want, truth be damned..

Sad commentary on the moral state of our country and society, but it is the predictable result of the agnostic/secular humanists that control our educational systems.

It's not going to get any better, get used to it.

I'm not american, therefore I don't know your laws, but I would defently take it to a higher authority.. When it comes as far, as a gun being fired, I would be certain everything is documented, so if there would happen anything, it wouldn't be word against word, but evidence of incompetence by the sherif..

Unfortunately there is not much of a case against the kid. The only witnesses that the kid fired a gun are the opposing party. Its their word against the group of riders. All the kid has to say is nope, didn't do that. There is no case for the DA to file charges.

If the kids were/are allowed to ride there than the couple was really harassing the kids.

You need to put up some trail cameras or something. It's obvious the keystone cops in your area aren't gonna do anything without some sort of evidence that gives them no choice but to do their job. My hats off to you for showing the restraint you have this far, a lot of folks would've escalated this by now in a not-so-constructive way that would likely not end well for anyone involved.

Mikey, I have read your threads about those jack wagons in the past. We all struggle with offensive people everyday. Don't feel compelled to take matters into your hands as a crusader in the situation. You don't want to be the one LE finally acts on.

You could dig where these punks ride through and take some boards with nails in them so they could get flats.

You could sit down and talk to them.

You could beef up your property line with a fence, even long stakes and wire.

Call the State Police , tell them the locals refuse to do thier job. Provide them with the same video footage the locals were shown. Reference the shooting incident. Staties like to remind locals that they are at the bottom of the law enforcement game. Where I live State Police had to come in and serve felony warrants that locals let accumulate over time whilst harassing skateboarders, young girls and old folks between donut breaks.
All while the opiode epidemic fallout stumbled around town , bringing its crime with it.

Best scenario you can hope for is the kid is a drug user/drinker, he gets wasted, and wrecks his 4 wheeler, or he shoots himself, or his friends shoot him:D

Do not do this! Most states have "booby trap" laws. If you set a trap you most likely will be found liable for any damage that you cause, including personal injury. The best way to handle this is to find out what it takes to legally post your property for "No Trespassing." Just putting up signs may or may not fulfill the requirements of the law. Once legally posted, a video of the violator(s) will force the police to take action.

Find the spent shell unless it was a revolver. How far away from the nearest residence was the shot fired.
Call fish and game to report the shot or shots fired. Game Wardens can have more authority than local enforcement. They are usually a division of the State Police or similar.

Yeah, game wardens deal with these kind of complaints all the time and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is a State law enforcement agency with the same authority as the state police.

Very good points. I've dealt with Ohio DNR in the past (almost got my truck impounded, arrested, and all gear confiscated for hunting in what they "thought" was an area about 100 yards outside of an unmarked primitive weapons only hunting zone. Long story...). Anyway, those guys love throwing around the fact they have far reaching jurisdiction. They get real excited to play the penis showing game, especially with local PD.

I don't drink, smoke, smuggle drugs, kidnap people, carry weapons, or smuggle humans. But if a L.E.O. wants to search my car, he can go get a damn warrant.

Asking to search those people's car is complete B.S., and they did the right thing by telling him no.

Sounds like the cop was more interested in the easy task of harassing people than the difficult task of following and enforcing the law.

Thats really awful. Undoubtedly the kid is a punk but he hardly deserves death.

Mike, you've been complaining about this for years. If you don't have a leg to stand on then it may be time to change your situation and move. You're tearing your hair out.

I am in the insanely lengthy peocess of purchasing the five-acre parcel of land adjoining my property. The local kids and some of whom I assume are their parents often drive 4-wheelers and dirt bikes on the parcel. I don't want to be a pr--k about it, but here in sunny SW Florida we often go from mid-October until June with virtually no rain. I am going to post a sign stating that from November 1 until June 1 all internal combustion-powered vehicles be equipped with US Forest service approved flame arrestors.
As an aside, I question the judgement of parents who allow their very young children- maybe as young as eight years old, operate these vehicles without adult supervision and more often then not, without a helmet.
