What’s the most expensive mustang ever sold? The gone in 60 seconds GT500 sold for $1 million. A ‘67 GT500 super snake sold for 2.2 million this year. My guess is 2.5 or higher.

Mecum claims it is perhaps the most valuable American car ever to go to auction. It is being sold at no reserve. We will see. It is a beat up movie car that the current owner’ s parent’s drove 45K miles.

It is going to be a record breaker. Kind of bummed the owner is going to let it go knowing the family history it has for him. But, strike while the iron is hot, I suppose.......

Mecum had several of his boys at Monterey yesterday implying his personal 50s era Ferrari race car prototype could bring 20 million. That auction starts on TV at 2 pm today.

Who knows, maybe it will? The batmobile did 4.6...

Regardless, I hope it goes to a museum so it can be seen. It was awesome that the current owners let it tour the world with the new bullitt mustang.

I met the owner last year at the Greenbrier concours.Super nice guy. His dad found it for sale in the back of a motor trend magazine around 1973. The family used it alot until the clutch went out ,then they parked it. He wasn't sure what he was going to do with the car. I am kind of surprised he is going to sell it. Cheers. Tim

When it’s not on tour, the Bullitt Mustang is in a garage a short distance from my house. The owner is a regular guy and the money from this car will be life changing. It’s a cool car but I would sell it too if I was in his shoes.

There is a second Bullitt car out there. It was found in a Mexican junkyard.

They said on Mecum that this one did 90% of the scenes for the movie.

Even at 10 percent there is a 100 percent of another car out there.

My guess is the McQueen car and Dana’s Prototype Ferrari race car will bring 7 figures but not the 8 figures they are dreaming of.

Yeah, I'm not seeing it being the most expensive American car that they'd hope it to be. It'd take 12 million for that, and I'm thinking this will go around 5-6 million.....but just imagine how cool it would be knowing you have THE car every car guy talks about and has watched 1,000 times in that chase scene :)

This is the one McQueen tried to buy back from this family in the 70s stating that it was his car. So, it is getting all the attention right now. No one is disputing that there was more than one car. The Mecum announcers talked about all of this yesterday live when the consignment was revealed.

x2. Darn, we went to Kissimmee this year and I wasn't planning to spend the money to go again next year but now I have to. I just have to see that car in person. I don't normally worship movie stars, in fact I never d0. But cars? Yeah, I've gotta touch that car :D It has to be the most iconic Mustang ever.

Not to doubt anyone. but Is this THE Bullitt Mustang? Last I heard that the owner was an asshat and wouldn't show it to anyone. Let alone sell it.

Yes it is the car. Well documented and proven. I've heard the owner is a great guy from everything I've read. The guy you're talking about probably has a '74 Mustang II sitting in a field he tells everyone is the car and they can't see it for a reason..... there's two cars as was stated. This is the hero car McQueen actually drove for most of the shots. The other one that is getting restored was the camera/stunt car and was found in Mexico basically as a shell. Also documented now.
