I bought my new heater core from year one a few years back. Haven’t installed the box yet. I’ll see if I can find the part number.
I paid $32.19 back in 2015. Had to have a 25 or 30% off promo code that they usually run during holidays. It’s an AC car too.
Very cool, thanks for the info! At this point I think that I will probably go ahead and order a replacement. At least I still have the factory tanks right? lol. In the future i could always see about having the OEM heater core redone.
Ya I wish I would have taken you up on that before committing to the shop here , oh well. Not end of the world right? Luckily with the long weekend, I should be able to get the whole box cleaned and ready for assembly.
Welp, got the heater core in from Ground Up SS396. Looks like it’s not gonna work. Tubes are way to close and done appear to be the correct angles. See the pics.
I may have to do that, it’s just gonna suck to have to eat that kind of money. I’ll let you know Brett. Bill, I would heat up the tubes and slightly bend them, but I think I’m just gonna return it. My luck it’ll break and I’ll be out the $$
Welp, ordered a heater core thru YearOne. It finally came in and it's aluminum. No mention of that on their website otherwise I would have not ordered it. So this one gets returned as well. Brett, I will take you up on your offer. Message me where to send my messed up original to lol. Thanks, Scott
I wouldn't replace them. These days, with the great Chinese parts, I would never replace a working USA made part.
I ended up sending the original core that my local radiator shop messed up out east to Brett. He dropped it off at his radiator guy who was able to correct everything and get it back to 100%. Looking forward to getting it back and getting the box back into the car.
My pleasure. I'm happy to be able to help. Good radiator guys are becoming harder to find. It's basically become a lost craft. I have the original core that I just took ouf of my car and an extra set of Harrison IA /CF tanks that Dennis will be doing in the future. They don't make this stuff any more and I love being able to recycle OEM stuff.
Brett what was the total cost of the core plus replacing it? I just disassembled my heater box and the heater core is the original Harrison unit. The tubes are slightly bent but otherwise it's completely looking okay. It is clogged up inside but some vinegar solved this. I am unsure about putting it back in as it's so very old. I won't put in an aluminum part..
I think a safe number would be around $250 total. Scott's was a little more but that's because my guy had to fix the lousy craftsmanship the core had previously suffered. As you know, time is money and you can't beat good quality USA stuff. As an aside, I took mine out yesterday for the whole day and had to turn on the heat on the way home. I actually had crack the window because it was getting hot in the car.
Don't bother finding an aftermarket replacement. Yes it costs substantially more (even more in my case lol ), but if the tanks are good go with a recore. Brett's guy did a stand up job at fixing my monstrosity from the pics Brett put up. It got dropped off at my house today (watched the USPS dipshit THROW the box onto my porch via my Ring, I swear if it is damaged...) so I'm more than anxious to get home and check it out. If it wasn't such a pain to get the heater core out I would have skipped this part (AC was remastered by a member on here), but since i was already in there and the whole front clip and engine are outta the car, it was a no brainer.
