Okay everyone I've been racking my brain, searching this forum, & I've read the spring thread on the Buick Performance Club. One seems to have a concrete answer but the forums here seem to have varying opinions.

I'm ready to buy new front springs & I just want to get the correct springs! I have a '72 Lark, 455, & A/C. Car will have a 1.25" sway bar up front.

Which is the best spring choice for decent ride height, not too firm, & good ride? Moog 5398 or 5536?!

    Thanks,

    Kyle

Call Detroit Eaton spring. Tell them what you got and what you want and they will make the spring you need for way less than you think it will cost

Thanks Briz. I've talked to them & she was very helpful. Seem to remember them being quite a bit more expensive than the Moog springs. Plus I have the CC501 springs in the rear.

Can't hurt to call & check again though. A call is free.

Unfortunately, your really not going to get a definitive answer on ride height until you install them.

    Thanks Jason.

I'm not particularly concerned about an exact ride height. Looking to keep the car as close to "normal" as possible. Not too high or too low.

Seems a lot of people think the 5398's are for a 350 w/A/C & the 5536's are more heavy duty.

I installed the 5398's on the front of my 71 Skylark with AC and 350 engine. Ride height with new Spring pockets was about 3/4 inch higher in front if I recall my measurements. Ride is slightly stiffer than stock but I think with a stock sway bar it is very easy to live with. I would imagine the extra weight on the 455 would be easily tolerated with this spring and slightly larger sway bar to match. I think this front coil allows for better cornering which was a big plus to me. Hope this helps.

One thing to remember, the ride height will probably drop some once the springs settle in with some driving. I was a bit worried when I replaced the front coils on my '64 because it came up quite a bit from the old springs.

I was told to take the car out and drive it with some aggressive turns both left and right. It didn't take long for it to settle in at a good ride height.

I took measurements at all four wheel wells parked in the same spot several times and was amazed at how quickly it worked out. Sorry I have no info on which spring to choose, only that I went with the stock spring through local NAPA. Used Moog for rear coils, both seem good.

    Thanks everyone.

I believe I'm going to go with the 5398's. Seems to be a good all around spring.
