    Hey everybody out there...
My actually problem is that the dipstick (engine oil) leaks.
The tube doesn't fit perfect in the engine so that it leaks...
I asked my dealer who is in contact with several junkyard dealer in the us. One guy found an original dipstick and told ma dealer that there is no tube. It is only one part...?
Can anyone help me if this info is correct? Otherwise i shouldn't oder that piece.

    Thanks a lot from germany

He is correct, there is no dipstick tube, and without one you will never get the dipstick to seal very well. But you can fix that. Find a dipstick tube that will fit in the block and use a cable type dipstick. Cut your new tube to match the dipstick with a fresh oil change and full filter.

Hey Jim. My problem is; i have a dipstick WITH a tube and it dont seal! The oil is blowing at the exhaust manifold etc...
Ok, the tube is in a terrible condition...not round and without a o-ring.
Maybe i find a "new" dipstick tube, can you tell me how i can fix and seal it in the block?
I would be very glad about a solution to fix that problem. The feeling, to drive on the highway and to know that oil drips on the exhaust manifold, is a little bit scary...

    thanks a lot
    Kai

Engine oil on the exhaust is not usually as much of a fire hazard as ATF, BUT it does make a smokey smelly mess.

Sorry got home late last night. It slipped my mind. I'll take a pic. of the dipstick too. If I remember correctly the stock dipstick was loose fitting. There was a slot in the dipstick you could put a screwdriver in and expand the tabs to make it fit snug.

IIRC the hole is 5/16". It's not hard to find a tube that fits tightly in the hole. I found a modern cable dipstick with an o-ring seal and a belled mouth on the tube that fit very well. It was a bit long but I just bent it out of the way.

Anything will work if it shows "full" right after your oil change. Even a stick whittled to fit.

    Hey Guys.
I just found this: "The 340 did not have one unless it was a California car with an AIR pump."
    What means "air pump"?
    thx

It's a smog pump. It's made to burn fuel left in the exhaust for cleaner air in California cars.
