Got my two bottom wisdom teeth cut/pulled/chiseled out Thursday, was in the chair almost two hours. They were of course severely impacted with 3 roots that all were around a 1/2in long. Doc was trying to rip my jaw off if felt like,..said he had never seen anything like it,.all came out in little pieces. I went with a local instead of anesthesia as that scares the hell out of me for some reason and of course it started wearing off towards the end of it. Still cant open my mouth but about 25% as of this morning. Funny the sore tooth only last a day or two but this feels like hell,..ha gotta love it

I guess I was lucky, I was born without wisdom teeth!
Look on the bright side, now you will lose some of that weight you said you wanted to get rid of!

I came factory-equipped with 6 wisdom teeth. My denstist says I am the “missing link” between Neanderthals and modern humans. Neanderthal’s had more molars to chew raw meet with, before fire was invented. Anyway, I was told back in my early 20’s while going through braces to get them out now! Nope, they weren’t bothering anything so I carried on. Fast forward, and I had one lower one out when I was about 30 or 35 years old. 5 more left. And then at 50, some of the top ones started bothering, so I had all 4 top ones out at he same time. Boy that was not good. They didn’t do a very good job explaining post-op care, as they went over what I was to do after surgery when I was still “feeling good”. To them it was obvious. I had never been in so much pain in my life. They gave me a script for one of those addictive pain meds (I have never taken any pain meds outside of an aspirin), but I managed the first night without filling the script. Then after a day or 2 it got worse. I was doing everything I was supposed to be doing except for the pain meds except for one thing that made all the difference in he world. And that was to use heat on my jaw instead of ice after day 2. Wow, what a relief. Ibuprofen and heat.

Like everyone else, I swelled-up and looked like chipmunk cheeks. I lost 10-15lbs, and I had an infection set in (not good either) that they knocked-out with some sort of stronger antibiotics. It was rough.

I have one more wisdom tooth left on the bottom. It’s really down in there, sideways, etc and even the oral surgeon said “yick”. I hope that’s the only thing left after I come out of the furnace!

I convinced my son to get his out at the age of 20. He only had 2 uppers and they weren’t impacted. I told him I would pay for the surgery if he elected to do it, until he turned 21, and then he was on his own. His was as easy at it gets. You would think with the amount of money I pay for health insurance that SOMETHING would be covered, but that was not the case for mine or his (thanks ObamaCare). The more “determined” one is in life, the more you have to pay for those that aren’t.

I had all 4 of mine removed early in in my 20s, did have some dry sockets and other issues even though I followed everything to the letter.

I think wisdom teeth are like your tonsils the older you get the worse it is. Watch little kids get them removed and are fine the next day......I sent 7 days in hospital and couldn't hardly eat anything real foolish for about 5.

I ate alot of warm mashed taters after teeth being pulled....super soft but I think the warmth helped

...I feel for you Wisdoms are the worst.

Slightly OT: Wife was in anesthesia. We're at tip of an iceberg, thanks to "opioid crisis." The old joke about "take an aspirin and call me in the morning" is becoming reality. MDs aren't going to chance liability for addiction. Bye-bye pain scale and pain management.

Little-known bombshell. Johnson & Johnson ran a Tasmanian poppy business. They promoted their morphine-free ingredient thebaine to medical community as an opioid not opiate. Opioids are synthetic, opiates are naturally derived from poppies. That subtle difference helped them convince medical community thebaine didn't have addictive qualities of opium, and here we are...

How anyone could become addicted to oxy is beyond me,..I wont touch them the stop me up something terrible like trying to poop a Volkswagen

These 800mg ibuprofen are actually helpful I don't claw my face and neck off like a crackhead like with oxy

I had a couple wisdom teeth out with a local when I was a teenager. Did the dentist stick his palm on your forehead to get leverage to pull?

One experience that I will never forget. I can't say that I remember it fondly!

They gave me oxygen for my tonsils, made me so sick to my stomach I couldn't stand it.....the pain felt better than that.

I think they used a bumper jack in my mouth to hold it open when they did my wisdom teeth.

As a kid, before my braces went on, I had to have couple of ‘regular’ teeth pulled. The dentist that did them was a 90lb lady and I thought she was going to have to put her foot on my forehead to get them out lol.

My pop pulled my baby teeth with pliers with a piece of paper towel in the jaws ha,.I honestly think what's hurting the most is from holding my mouth open for so long and they used an "extra wide" bite guard which was uncomfortable from the get go,..the hot little nurse was nice to look at tho

Had mine out in my 20's. All I remember is the doc sticking in the needle to the IV and telling me to count backwards from 10. next thing was waking up on my couch. Not sure if your wiser when they are in there or for getting them out.

Had 8 molars extracted in one sitting by a health dept no cost quack and that was the one with him holding down my forehead while he twisted and pulled. Snap crackle and pop. After it was done I had to ride a city bus and walk 1/2 mile home.

I still have my wisdom teeth. It was the teeth directly in front of them that got pulled. Not fun, but not agonizing either.

I asked if he would just take the last molars out to relieve the psi,.but he said It was only delaying the inevitable as there was decay under the wisdom tooth that was causing the pain

About 8-9 yrs. ago I had implants installed for ALL my teeth. No matter how much I brushed, (no flossing back then) I was told I would have to brush at least 3-4 times a day. Even tho I followed doctor's orders I would ALWAYS still end up with cavity's. Then I got drafted & then they became even worse. At 1st. I would go to the dentist for pulling without using nova-cane because of the added cost which I had to pay for. After awhile when one would get bad enough I would pull it myself. No matter what I did it didn't seem to make a diff. Dentist said I had soft teeth & that it was probably hereditary. My Mom or Dad didn't seem to have this problem. It ended up I ONLY had 11 teeth left. I looked like & felt like a Red Neck. Didn't smile because I was ashamed of my looks & was also sub conscious about it. I had saved for yrs. to get implants, BUT every time I thought I saved enough (3-5yrs) the cost went up.
One evening my youngest son got in a car accident. Imagine going to the scene & seeing your kid suffering with most of his bottom teeth gone & bleeding profusely. He was in the operating room for almost 10 hrs. rebuilding his lower jaw that looked like splinters of wood from the X-Rays. In the 3 yrs. time he needed to heal BEFORE any more surgery could be performed because the jaw had to heal completely. In that time he did a lot of research & he & I went down to Virginia from Ct. for a free consultation at a place called Clear Choice. No matter which route we took it took at least 5 hrs. one way. 10 hrs. driving in one day IF the traffic wasn't too bad. The price he was given a was a third of what it would cost in Ct. & he had MORE work done than what he was told he needed.
While I was there I also got a free check-up/consultation. To do ALL my teeth was 1/4 the cost of Ct.
They had an opening because someone had to cancel an appointment so he & I LUCKED OUT. He got his preliminary work done & I would get my preliminary done the following appointment. Now we were able to flip flop driving & appointments for the work to be done. For my son they finished pulling ALL the bottom teeth & made up temp. implants ALL in the same day. So I was able to drive home this time. 2 weeks later it was my turn as my son would be fitted for his permanent teeth & drive home. They gave me a shot that put me out & before I knew it I was out & in the recovery room where they feed stuff diabetes use that's full of protein & other nutrients. AND my temp teeth were installed. ALL IN THE SAME VISIT!!!! This time my son drove home. WE did this flip flop for about 6 months until we were both done. I only had to drive back & forth by myself 2 times. Nether one of us took any of the pain meds they gave to us. Even when we both had ALL our nec. teeth pulled there was absolutely no pain or a feeling of being uncomfortable like when you go to a dentist.
When it was time for surgery we had to be in the office by 7am so they supplied us with an overnight room & dinner for both of us being we were coming from Ct. IF you didn't drive they would pick you up at the train station, airport OR whatever way you were able to get there. For the both of us it was a POSITIVE experience.
We would both HIGHLY RECOMMEND their services to ANYONE who were in the same situation we were both in.

    Tom T.

IF I had too after a couple hrs. I feel I could have actually driven home myself.
