Well, had a miserable Wednesday and Thursday at the Nat's, if it could go wrong, it did. And then some. Carb, ignition, transmission, you name it. Finally got a handle on it Friday. Ran 10.88/125. Wrong converter. A full second quicker and 13 mph faster than the old 430. With the right converter we are figuring low 10's. I am very happy with the results.
I was gonna stop by and see how the new mill was running, flew by on a golf cart several times but couldn't stop. I had a Coan converter that would have been stupid close in the vendor area too
I was too tired to install it! Never had anything kick my ass like this did. But it sure felt good when it finally went down the track!
The first hits on new stuff is usually depressing and daunting ha, but the potential is there for sure
Darned headers are borderline obnoxious, really loud at 6000 rpm at the finish line. Nowhere else to run them with the studebaker steering and narrow frame. Just have to pass out earplugs.
Congrats Bill on getting the Hemi Hunter into the 10's! A little more converter and carb and the Stude will be flying.
Thanks to all who stuck it out with me. It's funny the original name I had picked for the stude was "Premeditated Disaster". It would have been quite fitting.
2 years ago I put my new stg 2 engine in the Stude. Managed the couple of high 10's. Found water in the oil. Back to the drawing board. Had a crack in #2 cyl. Back together finally, cemented, girdled, and fingers crossed. Dynoed last week. 680 hp/ 611 tq. 703/626 first go round, two years ago. One thing was different...... First go round we dynoed with some 2" borrowed headers, this time was with my 2⅛" headers I welded up. Power robbing little bastards, besides being obnoxiously loud in the pits. But hey it runs, doesn't leak fluids, and makes more power than a sane person should ever bolt in a 1955 Studebaker. Looking forward to having some fun at the nats this year. It's been a long wait.
Congrats on the Re- Re--Assembly of the Hemi Hunter! I've never seen it in person but love seeing the vids of it at BG! Best wishes for a trouble free Nats!
