Looking to mount a fuel pressure guage on my hood using hood vents to run plumbing to fuel rail . 0- 15 psi. Need to monitor pressure while making a pass. Kinda hard unless ya got a trunk monkey to monitor fp under the hood , which is where the guage is now. Said guage has puked, so in the trash with that one, buy a new one and move it to somewhere useful. Pics of how yours is mounted would be a bonus. Ty Jim
Jim, if you don't drive your car in the rain or not using the wipers you can mount the bracket from the bottom of the windshield attach it right where the stainless steel molding is attached. I'll post a better picture tonight
I have an Autometer electrical Fuel Pressure gauge permanently installed. They are pricey but the safest way to go unless you use an isolator. https://www.jegs.com/i/Auto-Meter/105/3361/10002/-1
Just throwing an idea out there, Mount a cell phone and take a video of all your gauges during the pass, That way you can reference exactly what is going on at every second of the run.
I have a GoPro camera that I use for monitoring guages, tach etc. My fuel pressure guage is on the carb . I am looking to mount fuel pressure guage to hood , so I can see it during run while still keeping an eye on the track... Would like to use a pedestal mount with a cup for guage , and a braided stainless line to carb . Was looking to see what others had done....Jim
Mines mounted with a pedestal mount I have the gauge turned for 6 pounds straight up that's all I need to look at Will post a picture of how I have it mounted later tonight.
I had a fuel pressure gauge mounted to the grille at the cowl, Dash 4 hose going to a tee in the fuel plumbing. Worked well. If the hose had ruptured, it would fill the cowl with gasoline, which would then provide gasoline fumes to the HVAC blower motor. Potential explosion hazard. When I was satisfied that the fuel pressure was stable under all operating conditions...I removed the gauge. For the record, if you have a liquid-filled gauge, you're supposed to pop the rubber plug off just before taking a pressure reading. Temperature changes will affect the accuracy of the gauge due to internal pressure variations--so you have to relieve the pressure before the gauge can be accurate. Most folks either don't know this, or deliberately ignore it--and then wonder why the indicated fuel pressure drops as the engine compartment/gauge warms up.
Srage2, thanks for the pics. That looks like a viable option. Would prefer to mount to hood, so I can use wipers if caught in rain. I like the idea of orienting your fp straight up, makes alot of sense, especially at speed. Thanks again for the pictures. Jim
Larry, I like the idea of an electric guage and would use that option if I were to mount the guage in the interior. I need to see FP when coming out of the burnout and end of track ( high rpms). Running TA mechanical pump and a return style regulator. JIM
Larry, I have the same fuel pressure gauge set up you do, on mine it doesn’t reset to zero all the time when I start the car, it will stay in the same position it was last I shut it off. Gauge issue or sender you think?
I also have an auto meter electric gauge, I can see mine on top end. Just look over at, I glance at mine about 1 once a pass
Jim, totally understand I don't drive this car a lot and it's only been caught in the rain once since 1983
I'd look at your ignition on 12 volt lead first. Might be a connection issue there. If not, I'd call Autometer's tech line and ask them.
Not a street car but the end result is the same. Don't have any specific pics of it, just general pics taken at Quaker. Used an existing hole in the firewall....
http://www.buickgn.com/fuelpressurebracket.htm Different gauge and plumbing but the bracket would probably work.
