New report Seattle make 100k a year and your broke Even With a $100K Salary, You Can Be Broke in Seattle Seattle and Bellevue rank among the affluent cities where a six-digit salary isn’t enough to make ends meet, new study finds How does where you live rate on cost to live
You can live pretty good in our town in northern Ontario. Check out some real estate prices..lol https://www.kathyboyda.com/listings.asp?SEARCHED=FALSE&sort=price_down&PAGECOUNT=10&Page=3
Greed kills everything. Everybody wants more more more, so people pay up, and it sets precedence, for property, housing, automobiles, wages, health care, insurance, commodities. Its a trickle down effect.
If I owned a property and could get $1,000 per month in rent, why would I rent it for less? That's not greed, that's optimizing my return on investment. I didn't purchase the property in order to provide subsidized housing for someone. That's Housing for Humanity's purpose.
another way to say it, "if you found a $20 bill in the street, would you sell it to me for $10"? I got this from a buddy years ago...
I live in Windsor and housing keep rising and rising because we are having all the Toronto retirees selling for BIG $$$ and moving to Windsor. They buy property even at our increasing prices and still have $$ in their pockets. In 3+ years my property has probably increased in value by 60% . No point in selling because I would have to pay at least that price to buy. Stay where I am.
$100k and can’t afford the city? That’s what suburbs are for! (And for people who are willing to trade some commuting time for better schools, more house and yard, lower crime, lower taxes, more money in the bank. Just don’t move out to the country and then complain ‘there’s nothing here and everyone target shoots and the animals stink!’). Patrick
My Brother just sold his house in Newton, MA for $1,100,000. Our mother bought it in 1927 for $17,000. If it was an empty lot it would have brought more.
People live beyond their means. They want the latest and best of everything, and they want it now. How many people do you know that get a new phone every year because they have to have it? 21% of Americans have no retirement savings, and another 10% have less than 5000.00. The average retirement savings is 84,821.00, that's not enough. Almost 8 out of 10 Americans live from paycheck to paycheck. That is shocking to me. 100,000.00 salary and can't live in Seattle, that's BS plain and simple. I could say the same thing about Manhattan. You may need to live outside the city and commute. People are spoiled rotten today. They don't know how to manage their money, and live within or below their means, that is the real problem.
North Carolina is very affordable to live in. Taxes are not as high as I have seen in other areas and homes are still in many areas priced well below what other areas command. To give you a idea on value I pulled up houses in my area (3bed 2bath no more than 3000 sq feet) and here is a good idea of what you can get in our area for your money https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/5831-Sutter-Ln-Kernersville-NC-27284/5827106_zpid/ https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/5953-Kenville-Green-Cir-Kernersville-NC-27284/65032182_zpid/
100k and you're broke? Here I thought this thread was regarding an unsuspecting Buick enthusiast attempting to restore a number 3 Gran Sport to number 1 condition...
I don't think so. Interest on the original loan. interest on other loans taken out on said property. Maintenance, taxes, insurance.. ETC ETC ETC. all that costs money. subtract all those costs form the sale price....thats profit or loss. For 92 years of ownership. at todays (17,000 in 1927 = 250,000 today). $9200 a year before expenses.. I dont call that profit... FWIW dont forget your heating&cooling costs is a big part of the maintenance expense. Your cable and internet is not...
