I remember "Plunk your magic twanger, froggie" as from the Buster Brown show. I do know that it had a couple of iterations before that, however. Andy Devine was Poncho on the Wild Bill Hickok TV program. Tom, all I would have to do to find a three-speed Raleigh would be to go to our shed in the backyard. It is my wife's - she bought it new back in the '50s. I did a semi-restoration on it about five years ago. She hadn't ridden a bicycle in about 30 years and fell of it on her first ride. She hasn't ridden it since. I have, but it's a girl's bike. The gear change chain you mentioned used to be carried by virtually every hardware store in the New England area. I actually kept a spare in our basement. I didn't have a Raleigh - my bike was a James Mercury that was a Raleigh knockoff and used the same gear change components as the Raleigh.

I was amazed then I saw manual reel mowers for sale at Walmart. I suspect made in china but still seemed funny. I guess if you have a real small yard would be handy.
I remember in 1977 the big thing was calculators and Mattel Football games. They did not allow either of those in school. Now schools give out Chromebooks .
The New housing development down the road has yards so small a push mower is all you would need. In fact the lots are so narrow you cant have your kids Birthday party at your house..No room for parking unless you make arrangements with the neighbors..

Do you remember when there was a test pattern that was on the TV until & 7am then they would play the national anthem and the tv shows would start playing
" TELEVISON" Anyone remember the radio program "the Fat man and Mr. Malone " detectives ? We would be on the floor around the radio listening . I remember the sound of a 6 cyl car drive away from the crime scene ( late 40's) We had a Straight 8 Buick that had its own sound !! Bill
When I was in the Army I was in military hospital in Germany due to a leg injury. I can remember the Red Cross bringing us free cigarettes, but all they had to offer were Lucky Strikes, but hey they were better than nothing! Bob H.
I remember that as well. It was a big deal in our house the day we got our first color TV so we could see the test pattern in living color!!
Don't forget UHF Channels. ONE show on UHF in my area was Uncle Floyd. He did some weird comedy acts. But he had bands like Bon Jovi, ramones, blue oyster cult and more. Before MTV.
