Hey again guys. So, some background: Had a bit of a cooling issue, which then resulted in one of my plastic hose connectors between the heater core and manifold explode and spew coolant everywhere. So i i scavenged another connector and refilled the radiator with distilled water and drove it back home. Sat for about a week, pulled the air cleaner filter to check on this meddlesome fuel line flute leak (its own issue entirely) and noticed a bit of coolant must have sprayed across the filter as well. So, cleaned and re-oiled the 14" K&N and reinstalled and went to fire the car up. Pulled it out of my driveway and got a backfire and immense bog when i applied any throttle whatsoever. Tried to drive it in a quick circle to pull back into driveway and it died entirely when trying to give it some throttle. Limped it back into my driveway under the slow roll of the D gear. Good times! So. What the hell? Why is it suddenly doing this? Did some coolant get into my carb? Ive been doing as much research and learning as i can but im a novice. Thanks in advance.
Theres no choke at all. Fuel tho seemed like the case. Just rebuilt this carb and it was running pretty well until.... All that BS stated above. Something could've gone awry then?
It's December, and you have no choke. If it's colder than ~60 F., I can understand why it doesn't run right. There may be more going on than just the lack of choke, but that is certainly not helping matters.
Im in TX. Its 81 right now as it is and ive manually kept some throttle on it for a time after start up. I havent had this issue in the years ive owned the vehicle
The first thing I would do is change the distributor cap,it looks like hell on a few cylinders .It most likely misfired when you had water there,just my opinion.Bruno.
Appreciate the input. You think replace rather than attempt to clean it up? Edit: distributor is a GM product but the hei cap atop says Delco Remy. Not sure if thats pertinent to my next question but figured id add that. So if a replacement is necessary what do you suggest parts wise? Theres more caps and rotors out there than i initially thought and wouldnt wanna get the wrong thing. Thanks again
That i know just mentioning it specifically in case it made some sort of difference between models heh. Inside the distributor however was stamped "GM"
Prongs in your cap that go to the cylinders looks rusty. Might clean those up also (with a wire brush or a little sandpaper) to make sure they aren't corroded to the point of misfire. I would suggest a new cap.
