Monday, my friend Joe, passed at age 86. To a great many people in the Buick community he was indeed, "Mr. Buick." Twenty years ago when I first got my Skylark, I logged onto V8 Buick and became a member. Joe reached out and invited me to come show him my Skylark. During those 20 years we had great times driving and working on Buicks. Those who knew him will also know a great void in their lives. Here is a picture of the last person to drive the Buick Bug on a race track in 2005.
I remember him driving the "BUG" at the 2003 Nationals , he was in his glory !! RIP Mr BUICK !!! Bill
"The Old Guy" man what a loss. He was the coolest and always drove to events, something that I think about all the time. Peace and Rest Joe.
He was an icon in the Buick community. It was an honor knowing him for 40 years. Of all the Buick's he owned, this is the one that I will always remember Joe in.
Joe was such a great guy, and so committed to Buicks. Ted mentioned how he drove to events; I know he was a real champion for people who actually drove their Buicks! He was a "Hot Rodder" from the old days, and had so many great stories. It was a privilege to have known him. The Buick community lost a great resource, and the world lost a fine man.
Very sorry to hear about him. I would have liked to have met him. Those of you that knew him. How luckey you are.
Met him decades ago at a BCA. I recall 2 things, he was a nice guy and had a flame orange '72 GS. Sound right? God rest his soul.
Yes, I grew up in Flint and had the privilege of knowing Joe for years. I even painted a few cars for him over the years. The '72 GS conv. being one of those. Had many trips to the dragstrip trailering my car while he drove his. We even joked about it, but he knew what E.T. everyone of his cars would/had run. We are talking EVERY car he had over the years. One thing I always thought was cool was he had a map of the US & had a legend with pictures & color coded push pins so he could show every part of the country he had been to in which car. Including basically a "One lap of America" trip in his purple '37 'coup de grape"......... He was a great guy & will be missed. R.I.P. Joe!!!
Sorry to hear about Joe-he was always very personable and loved to not only talk Buick's, but was always willing to help his fellow Buick enthusiasts in any way he could. Big loss for the Buick community.
I am Very Sorry to hear of "Papa Joe" passing. A Great Guy, Fun & Knowledgeable. Deepest Condolences to his Family. JR & Bill Wills
