Maybe this was going on for a while with PayPal but I just tried to figure out this math. I know it would be 3% fee in the past for EBay transaction and it may have went to 4%.......I can't find the info on either website. So I wonder since my state and other states collect tax are they basing the fee off the additional money getting collected on tax too? See my 2 attachments and try to figure out the % of the fee and what they are basing it off of. I will be calling PayPal for someone to explain it to me. Like I said I really never studied my PayPal fees so this could have been the way for years on my account. I just assumed they were still running the same way.
Paypal fees seem pretty straightforward: https://www.paypal.com/us/webapps/mpp/paypal-fees#selling EBay fees are a lot more complicated and have more variables: https://www.ebay.com/help/selling/fees-credits-invoices/selling-fees?id=4364
Thanks for the info. But the math still doesn't add up .....$4.81 would be the charge for one of my attachments. That would be based off the total amount with tax. I wouldn't even think the seller should be getting charged additional for the state collecting tax. That's just getting ripped off.
Standard PayPal fee is 2.9% + .30. Looking at your numbers and at PayPal site, it looks like that fee is the International Rate. I just copied this from PayPal site. Was your buyer not in country? Sales within the US 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction Discounted rate for eligible charities 2.2% + $0.30 per transaction International sales 4.4% transaction fee plus a fixed fee based on currency received PayPal HereTM card reader 2.7% when you swipe a card or 3.5% plus $0.15 for manually entered transactions
