That car would look perfect in my garage back in so cal about 20 minutes away from Reynolds dealership. Parked next to my Pontiac
Guy - I sure hope you and Pat are getting more than the J&B car brought. If not, don’t sell it yet!!! For the life of me I can’t understand why that car (as well as the Fireglow show car) were blackballed the last few years that caused their values to drop.
Don't take this the wrong way but the J+B stage 2 was bid to 145K a couple years ago I forget what auction and they wouldn't let it go.
That was a “Reserve” auction, and you can’t use those as a reference. If the reserve wasn’t met, it may have had “phantom bids” by the auctioneer to try to get it close to the reserve. Only cars that actually sell can be used as a reference.
I DONT WANT TO SOUND LIKE A IDGOIT BUT WHO IS jb AND WHAT CAR ARE YOU GUYS TALKING ABOUT THANKS JOHNNY
Thank you. And oh it won’t. I realize this is a very special car. 1,676 ORIGINAL mile car. With history and lots of documentation. Maybe I’ll re list the docs here. You would be blown away with the paperwork on this car. Everything was saved by Reynolds including everything in there dealer folder from back in the day and also there stock sheets from when it was stocked in (as a “race car”) by vin and when it was sold to Lennie Kennedy as a “hot rod”. Plus it wears the original complete sheet metal, glass, and interior, rear end with stage2 4:78 gears. How about the original “pink slip” title that has Lennie Kennedy’s signature on that and on other pieces of odd factory / dealership material. Two different punch cards etc. this paperwork was accidentally left in the dealership folder that Don gave me. Plus inter dept letters between Buick and Jim Bell on the progress of the stage2 testing that Dennis Manner gave me.
Dad had a chance to buy the fireglow car way back when the ppl at Len Immke had it, his wife back then told him he didnt need both a 69 stage1 and that car, probably a good thing it would now have way more miles on it if dad would had bought it.
Johnny, I thought Guy might answer this for you but he might have missed your post. The JB car is the red Jones & Benisek 1970 Factory Stage 2 car. One of only 2 factory Stage 2's ever made. All the Stage 2 parts were available over the counter from dealers but this was made at Buick. It was always a race car and it only has 15-1600 miles. There's tons of info out there about it. Here's a link to the Mecum Auction where the JB car was. Has some nice pics and a decent right up. https://www.mecum.com/lots/FL0120-397566/1970-buick-gs-stage-ii/
Iv'e seen a 67 L79 327 Nova SS go for more than that ^^ Whats wrong with this world when a crudish leaf springed and awful shock tower tin can type of car brings in more money than a hefty beefie BBB A body GS. Yes people have the right to love what they want but come on there has to be 10000 67 Nova SS's out there.
Philip, if you don't mind I have to correct this. The only stage2 car that came from the factory was car #4085, a GSX. And that GSX didn't come off the factory line but built in an engineering department and is so far to believed to be made to look like a GSX. Maybe not one of the 678 built. My car received ALL the complete stage2 hardware from Dennis Manner's engineering dept through the back door to Bill Trevor's training dept right down the road from the Reynolds dealership, and given to them for testing with on track real world evaluations through Kenne-Bell. It received the whole package including the complete painted hood with prototype hood scoop and air pan. Bill Trevor spec'ed the car and then ordered it through Reynolds. The J/B car was first a magazine car that was sent to Bill Trevor for magazines to test. Then sold to Doug and Dave. Doug Jones him self told me they purchased the stg2 heads from a Buick dealer. But Trevor was involved with them and the car. After the dismantling of car #4085 only the hood and scoop, air pan were saved and given to Doug and Dave for there car. Lots of misinformation on these cars and I just want to make sure that everyone knows the correct histories of them. Where these stories came from that these cars came from the factory as complete Stg2 cars is baffling. Sure my 10-10 car, Brads 10-10 proto, and the red show car that started as a 10-10 car came off the line the same day has some meaning to it.
Here is the J/B car during its road test days. This is also the reason Buick changed to flat lenses. The magazine guys complained the glare was too distracting. *photo credit to Dave Johnson
