    All,
I finally dove in and am replacing the front Control Arm Bushings. So far so good. :) My question is? What is the correct color for the springs and spindles as I have seen them both black and cast iron color? Any help would be greatly appreciated. On a side note, the springs both have a white strip on the top with 5380 stamped into them. I'll post a picture later when I get home, but I'm wondering if they are original AND should I replace them if they look just fine and I am happy with their performance?

    Cheers and best,
    Mike

Assembly manuals say to paint front suspension and steering components black after assembly. This was done with various degrees of thoroughness and slop. Same for rear. Springs were probably gray but got a shot of black from the guy with the gun. Same for the sway bars.

Original springs were painted black and were identified by the paper sticker that was affixed to them.

Were the control arms painted before the bushings were installed, or are the steel parts of the bushings suppose to be painted?

    "Brass or copper cotter pins"

Actually it would be either Copper or Steel cotter pins, and it depends on the year car and which Final Assembly Plant it was built at.
