Gary, you replied to Buizillas question: Does that mean a standard 69 400 block cannot use the heads or pistons??? Please explain. I am trying to wrap my head around all this for a buddy. . . Wheelz, Tampa Bay
I think with Gary was trying to say is that the 69 stage two package was the cam, intake, and carburetor The Pistons were a standard bore 455 I don't think they were available on 69.
The heads weren't available till late 70 early 71, the stage 1 valves were shrouded by the smaller bore of the 400, if you wanted to use the 455 pistons you'd need to bore the 400 to 455,which can be done,I've done it a couple times but its imperative that the block is sonic tested. The headers are not D shaped, they are round as are the exhaust ports of the stage 2 heads. The TA al. stage 2 heads are D shaped.
OK So guys, because this stuff is so rare, please help me clarify this.... there was OR was NOT A FACTORY IRON HEAD STAGE 2 PACKAGE available for a 69??? Wheelz, Tampa Bay
Wheelz, like Gary said The iron stage 2 heads were not available in 69 only the stage 2 cam, pistons, Edelbrock intake manifold and holly carburetor. There may have been some early experimental stage 2 heads floating around there's a picture of a 69 GS with stage two heads I think it was a KB car but we're not available to the general public .
Well yah, thats kinda what I thot. THANK YOU! Guess the setup John is offering would be more correct for a 70-71 car. Wheelz, Tampa Bay
I see reference to 400 and 430 pistons in the ‘68 Stage 2 parts; 1394179 and 1394180 respectively. I think they were 11:1. https://www.teambuick.com/reference/library/articles/68-gs400-hr.php Patrick
Thanks guys for correcting me I forgot the Pistons were available at late 68 and 69I think the package that John is trying to sell is for a 455.
The 69 that Nick restored had a 430 with Stage 2 piston . He bought the car from me and I kept the STG 2 heads , intake , 850 Holley , headers and the 4.78 rear . He did buy the rear . Bill
...as always Guys, EXCELLENT INFORMATION flowing here!!! Thank You all for your input. Wheelz, Tampa Bay
Thanks John for letting us comment. Very interesting sale. I would be interested but already have two COMPLETE Stg2 setups. One complete on the car and another of nos stuff and the actual prototype heads used on the Reynolds car while doing the testing for Buick on the shelf. And two sets of Kustom headers... arguably the hardest part of the combo to find because most are both rusted up and damaged in some way. Like someone said, I have a restored Kustom header hanging on the wall in my shop as a display. BUMP!!!!!!
Yes,that is correct. My 69 GS400 has the complete stage 2 package from the factory which included 12 to 1 pistons.
Thanks guys for all your input. All these parts have been sitting on my shelf for years. Plan was to restore one of my 70 Stage 1 cars and build a Stage 2 motor.....well you know how that goes.
LOL , I know what you mean John, I have a complete 455 stage 2 package too ,incl. headers.that I've been saving to do a stage 2 engine for Sandy's X. I don't know if I'll ever do it as my age is getting up there. One of these days...........
Good luck John,a complete package to build a historic option that Buick should have continued for a couple more years.
